Microsoft Virtual PC 5.2 eerr I mean Connectix Virtual PC

Virtual PC 5.2 for Windows will only run on NT platforms (Windows XP, 2000 and NT 4.0 SP6). Users intending to run Virtual PC on Windows ME or Windows 98SE will need to use Virtual PC 5.1 for Windows
  • Improved 'Virtual Switch' networking architecture
    - Higher levels of reliability, especially for connection oriented networking protocols.
  • Improved processor virtualization
    - Resolved a number of core emulation issues, leading to better support for a number of operating environments.
  • Improved support for Terminal Server environments
    - Better support for remotely displaying Virtual PCs under Windows 2000 Terminal servers.

As you can see it's already getting M$ influence.

Download: http://www.connectix.com/support/vpcw_online.html

Connectix will continue the support of VPC until August 18. On April 15, Virtual Server will be available as a preview release but on M$ site. More info: http://www.connectix.com/about/acquisition_win.html

Yes it can.
  1. Buy the software
  2. Install it
  3. Install 9x or use an MS-Dos boot disk to install Dos on the guest OS
  4. Play

Yeah, I supose I should mention that it doesn't support 3d video or sound. It emulates the video as an S3 trio, and the sound as a Sound Blaster 16

I have an old Pinnacle MP10 parallel external module to capture realtime videos in MPEG1 (not compatible with W2K nor WXP). Do you think it will work on my XP-Pro?

if its external it should be able to find it, but keep in mind, since its an emulated OS it will run at a lower performance.
I use VPC at my XP-Pro with no problems.
OS tested:
Win95 OSR2
Win98se
Win2k Pro
Linux Conectiva 7 and 8(little problems with video driver/X server)

Pinnacle? let me laugh..... The worst customer support on the earth... They stoped that great tool without saying anything to the users. (they killed the forum and the FTP sites)

Backwards compatibility is always good I guess. For some reason though I can run DOS games just fine on Windows XP. I don't have any third-party software installed, yet I get sound blaster 16 support and VESA 2.0 support as well. I can run games like Warcraft 2 just fine.

Whadda ya mean? This allows you to emulate a PC, thus running another session of Windows within Windows. You can havew Win XP installed on your machine, and run a game on a virtual 98 machine in seconds without having to reboot your machine or close any apps.

Until they have USB support on Virtual PC it will be a waste of time having anyway, so who really cares, perhaps MS can actually do something right and help Connectix get the product up to standard.
