Hmmmm.
Square took Enix and their Dragon Warrior from trone with its Final Fantasy, not to mention other Square killer games. By this time I don't think Enix is a big fan of Square and I certainly didn't think that they had enough money to buy such company as Square !!! I'm afraid that this can be lethal for Square because they will have to focus on others ideas and their own so in time we will have first person battles in our RPGs and from big Square that it will become just a little "s". Just my thoughts!

Final Fantasy + Dragon Warrior = pure coolness.
Plus it means they share the staff from Star Ocean 2....

no sorry.
if the only two big RPG-companies merge and destroy the competition thats everything else then good news. square was already lazy if comes to innovations as it is, but now without any other big company they have to surpass... and also, things like this lead to decissions like "we have to cancel dragon quest so we dont influence the sales of final fantasy, its for the companeis best", you know what i mean? i can ganrantee you that this means even less good games in the whole context and if were honest, there arent all that many good RPGs these days to begin with. the only thing i like about this is that square has been quite nintendo-friendly lately and this deal could mean enix wil have to be now too

Hell freezes over.... again.
This has certainly been the year for surprises.
Enix and Square have merged. They will be known henceforth as Square Enix. Square's Yoichi Wada will become the new president. For those who know the history of these developers, you will just react as I have. Total disbelief. http://www.nikkei.co.jp/news/main/20...626112002.html I seriously don't know what to say. I have no comments... other than I am no longer the voice of anti-Square around here. This is too shocking for much else. |

looks like they merge because of Square's loss on the movie-making... they are refering to FF Spirit within I assume...

How's about this link then?
![]() http://quote.bloomberg.com/fgcgi.cgi...MumxNkRW5peCB0 Seriously, this is the biggest gaming news this year. This is bigger than Square returning to Nintendo, and this is WAY bigger than MS buying Rare. Enix buying Square is simply astronomical. |

ooh... I just posted a thread on this in Game Discussion. My bad.
Anyways, I just have to say that this is unexpected... as for the implications, I will leave that for another day. I want to see some games coming out first.

Now that's some news. Thanks for the Link Ninja. Now what can we expect from the new Square Enix?

I would expect to start seeing some cross game combinations, most notably Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest somehow combined. However, as both series are similar in that each game is totally different, I have no idea how that will work. I would imagine it will be arranged though.
![]() I also think it's pretty much guaranteed that we will be seeing a lot of Square Enix games on GameCube now as well. Sony no longer owns nearly as much of Square as they once did, and the company now has HUGE development potential. It was once stated that Enix had 3 games coming to GameCube, but they didn't give any titles. Square had Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles on the way. It can be assumed that those games are still coming to GameCube, as they have a contract with Nintendo at this point. One thing I am actually anticipating though is further collaboration between Enix and Square's development teams. Chrono Trigger was one of the best RPGs ever, and was made by a combined Enix/Square development team. My hopes are REALLY up now for a proper Chrono Trigger sequel. It's truly amazing how news so simple can fully restore my faith in Square. |

Maybe a hybrid like Kingdom Hearts which mixed Final fantasy and Disney, we can get another mixture
