Hmm, I almost always used the original key for my WinXP Pro installs (aside from one instance where i tried a keygen and it worked ), but I still have to call M$ for activation. Maybe sxamiga's version is the corp OEM one. Maybe.

Surprisingly, no one mentioned another excelent reason for preventing modded consoles from playing online: Cheaters. Everyone here probably knows how even a small group of them can ruin an online experience, so I appreciate any measure that can help fight them.

Still, I agree that permanently banning those with modded consoles from the service is too much. If they somehow disable their modchip, or get another console they should be able to get back.

Well, DUH! Of course it's the Illegal Dell Corp version... Ever imagine how it would be like to call M$ and tell them, "Hi, I'd like to activate my bootleg WinXP I got for 3 dollars at Joe Shmoe's". :eyes:

:eyes: it's also like saying what is Bill gates ATM number Microsoft does this stuff for a reason. And hopefully other companies will follow in their footsteps. Unfortunatly, we'll have some low-life hacker that will spoil the future of safe software.

low-life hacker?
safe software?

Those are provocative terms, but I would not associate MS with safe software, and not just yet - even with Palladium they can ID your system and ban you/trace you - but they cannot prevent their data/customers data being stolen by "low-life hacker" - while the Linux kernel hackers continue to create and improve the security on another system.

Now that I thought of it, why the ***** did I say that? Smoking too much hash again?

I guess microsoft shouldn't be trusted since they actually stole the idea of a GUI from someone else. Hackers are actually pretty smart people, just put their knowlege to bad use (some people) instead of helping step up security for a next-generation OS

Was that better

Yes, thanks for setting the record straight .

Hackers are different from Crackers, well at least in the perceived meaning of the term. Finding flaws in a system and submitting reports does not equal to exploit it for whatever reason .

And about Linux, I think just wait for the next wave of distribution release. KDE 3.1 + kernel 2.6 + ALSA final + Xft2 Fontconfig is going to be awesome. Great speed & feature improvement. I'll just stick with PCSX/ePSXe Linux on my gaming needs .
