What is this, exactly? Is this an emulator that runs your own ROMs? Or is it one that accesses an online list/database of them?

If it's the latter, then say farewell to this thread.

I don't think it will runs your own ROMS. It must be already include or something. I don't know. It is illegal or not. I need someone to verify that.

Even if it is legal, seems kinda useless. To see if it is legal or not, maybe checking www.firenes.com.ar. Probably we would need someone that understands Spanish, and the site is currently off-line.

Actually you don't have to download the games, it has it own database, its based on vNES (java emulator). i don't really know what to do here, because it's avaliable on the official FireFox addons page.

Well, if this is real and genuine and we get better java and flash players we can move on to the world of 16-bit gaming starting with the simple SNES(comparison: genesis has 'arcade' quality graphics and it shows, snes has simpler graphics).

BUT, this has to be real and work

FireNes does work. It just runs the emulator and games on-demand from a remote website ( the emulator from the FireNes site, the roms are executed from remote, unrelated servers apparently).

Users with NoScript will have to enable scripts for the originating site for emulation to even start (the display window of FireNes does not display anywhere that NoScript is causing the thing not to start)

See picture attached.

So, I don't get it. Is this legal use or not?

Downloading ROMs is illegal whether you own them or not, but playing them from a remote server free-of-charge isn't?

It seems theyre just trying to make it "convenient" (no separate emu or rom downloading). From their FAQ page (originally in spanish), they claim that the temporary storing of roms into RAM does not really count as downloading, though I disgress. Roms are stored on a separate website not operated by the makers of the extension (more of a loophole to avoid liability)

The whole "run from a remote server" is actually more of a scheme to get people hooked/dependant on the website than a real acceptable emulation method (not unlike a "vendor lock-in")

Its a website script that is not loading. Did you have issues with NoScript and without ? (noscript is not needed here, that was more of a notification for noscript users in case they get errors)
