Glide64 'Napalm' 1.0 released to public!

Quote:
Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls!

The Glide64 Team proudly presents you the new release of our project – ‘Napalm’!

The project now consists of three parts. The main part – Glide64 graphics plugin – was changed a lot since the previous public release. It’s simply impossible to list all modifications. New version has tons of bugfixes and optimizations. Large number of special effects implemented. Lots of hacks removed, because they are not necessary anymore. Lots of previously unplayable games are playable now. Lots of games, which worked good before now work even better. Screen shots of most noticeable improvements were posted on our forum. Check also the updated screen shots gallery.

The second part – Glitch64 glide wrapper – was also changed much. Beside various fixes and optimizations it now supports anisotropic filtering and compressed textures.

The third part – GlideHQ – is a new module, which implements various texture enhancement techniques. It supports 6 texture filters, 7 methods of texture enhancement, 2 methods of texture compression. Beside that it fully supports Rice’s format of Hi-Resolution texture packs, with various optional techniques to save texture memory.

Project related documentation was improved too. We put all useful docs in one file ‘Glide64 Info.chm’. Please read ‘Readme’ part of it, at least first two chapters, with general information and setup instructions.

Due to huge number of changes, new bugs might be introduced too. Despite the intensive beta testing during all period of development, some issues had been found and fixed right before the release. Thus, if you will find an issue, which is not mentioned in the ‘Known Issues’ part of the documentation, please report about it on our forum.

I gave this version codename ‘Napalm’. ‘Napalm’ is also the codename for VSA-100 graphic chip, on which 3dfx Voodoo 4 and Voodoo 5 series were built. I still use Voodoo 5 in my home PC. This version of the plugin uses a lot of VSA-100 special abilities; therefore it was also named ‘Napalm’. BTW, there are few effects, which you can see only on VSA-100 based cards, or on N64 itself. Check ‘Games Tips and Tricks’ part of the documentation for details.

Download Glide64 ‘Napalm’ from here and enjoy!

PS: If you have any wrapper bugs, please let me know.

Voodoo or not, this plugin works incredible well!! I use it for all my games and everyone else should do the same. One of the best N64 plugins (I won't say the best so as not to offend). Almost every game, every effect looks perfect with Glide64!! USE IT!!!

In terms of compatibility it is the best. Amazing job done by mudlord and the rest of the Glide64 team, i didn't expected N64 emulation to come this far and i rather enjoyed this plugin . Someone has to update the download in Ngemu site with this remarkable version (and rate it a little higher also ).

Yes, using Glide64 is very easy. Put the plugin/ini/HQ file in the "plugins" folder and put the wrapper in the emu folder. That's it! You'll soon be enjoying all those N64 games like you never have before.

This is the most active N64 plugin available - Gonetz has been working on it none stop it seems for the past 5 years. Its pretty much the best no matter WHAT video card you have. This new version does everything you could possibly want from a N64 plugin - including numerous filters and hi-res texture pack loading. If you have any N64 emu on your PC, then this should be the primary plugin...trust me!!

This is a grate plugin i used a voodoo 2 card with out Glitch64 glide wrapper, And resident evil 2 is almost perfect with video and graphics,

"Qwestion" i managed to fix the speech glitch by defating the conter factor but its the sound plugin that needs fixing it can be jurky at times in the game, Do you think they will update sound plugin soon?, Are is this not the problem with the emu?

Grate work mudlord keep it up!.

Cheers for the release, mudlord and crew. I've been testing it and it works really well so far. I need to experiment a little more but i'm seriously impressed.

In an attempt to make the plugin as accurate as possible, how/what can be done? If anyone loads up Zelda - Ocarina of Time on the Wii...notice the 'Nintendo' logo (the detail, the chrome etc)...it's pretty much identical to the N64....when you compare it to the Glide64 plugin...it doesn't quite look the same.....I was wondering why.

I'm not complaining, I love this plugin.....its just a thought as to how to get the plugin to be as accurate as the N64 (and Wii) version is.

Thanks alot.

If you can post screenshots of this, maybe we can take a look and try to fix it to make OoT 100% perfect in emulation.

mmh............

AWESOME RELEASE ! Ive tried it before, but that was when i was a complete n00b on emulation(bout 5 years or so) and couldnt notice diffrences between releases. Now, i can see why this is the greatest plugin for N64 emulators. Keep the good work up, and make Star Wars Rogue Squadron playable (srsly, there isnt a single emulator that can run it, and making it run would be internet all over again)

My experience with PJ64 1.7 and z64 say otherwise.

My experience with PJ1.7 and Glide64 say otherwise to that.

Glide64 is the best N64 plugin IMO. Are you saying that Z64 is the best? Z64 has accomplished alot of things crazy things when it was being worked on by Zig. Some of that stuff actually got implemented in the latest release of Glide64. But by no means is Z64 a standard plugin for most users - just one that has implemented things that have never been done before (low level GFX and such). Average N64 users should be using Glide64, but this is fine to have around and play with.

Anyway, there's no reason to be insulting/rude to a mere announcment of an amazing N64 GFX plugin release. Gonetz has worked really hard on this plugin and he has made it dazzeling. If you don't think its at the top, then you probably spend some more time with it. Try every single one of your games with Glide64 and then get back to us.
