Running Rune Factory Frontier on Dolphin

As opposed to the usual "OMG I NEEDZ TEH HELP! MAH GAEM ISN'T WORKIGN" thread. I figured I would help those of you interested in playing Rune Factory Frontier on Dolphin. I'm going write this as if you hardly know anything, so be patient.

Intro:
Anyone who has tried to run Rune Factory using the stock configuration knows you get trapped in specific conversations because HLE doesn't sync the game with the audio properly. This happens not only in several cutscenes throughout the game, but also when you try to shop (thus keeping you from really doing anything in game). However, for everything that isn't these conversations the HLE plugin works perfectly (sound and all).

So, we can't really play the game at all with stock settings.

What you need to do:
1. Go to Options/Configuration/ in Dolphin, disable the "Dual Core" option under the "General Tab" then go to the "Plugins" tab and change the DSP to "Dolphin DSP-LLE Plugin."

2. Then you need to get two files: dsp_coef and dsp_rom (I will not go into how to get them since software is a touchy subject here, just look it up). They need to be placed in the /Sys/GC folder of your Dolphin directory. And that's it.

So, what do we have now? A game that runs through dialogue that was once impassible and runs at a decent speed (Mine runs pretty much at 25 fps, but my computer is also well above the average rig).

So, what are the drawbacks?
1. The sound is utter crap (LLE has not had a lot of work done on it). Really, just mute it.
2. It is inevitably slower due to lack of optimization and Dual Core support by the LLE plugin.

HOWEVER, we only need this config when we know we'll encounter a problematic cutscene or go shopping. So, if you want, you can save your game after doing what you need to do, and change back to HLE and DualCore when you don't plan on either encountering a cutscene or going shopping, giving you a faster and nicer sounding experience.

There is one drawback, and that is if you encounter a cutscene and get stuck. All you can do is hope you saved recently (although it might be worth exploring the use of savestates to overcome this)

By the way don't let the join date fool you. I've been lurking for a LOOOOONG time.

Oh FFS, I said I wouldn't go into it, yet that's the first thing people bring up. You can dump it from the Gamecube using some software and an SD card. Now let it be.

I'm sorry, what?
I wrote the dsp code which runs on the dsp, copying the contents of it's rom back to the buffer used by DSPSpy (Which has been developed and had contributions from many people).

Running the homebrew on your own console is illegal to you? All you need is bannerbomb, bootmii, or any of the other non-piracy-related ways to run code on your console...

When did I mention running homebrew on your console is illegal?

Sorry about that. I just feel like people here always pick trouble for trouble's sake. As shuffle said, it's legal and all you need to do is run DSPSpy on a homebrew channel which dumps the files to an SD card which you can then load up to your computer and use. If you need more details just search the Dolphin forum.

No, not trying to pick trouble. Previously I had heard that there wasnt a way to dump that file. I stand corrected. Thanks for the info.
