Lock threads to Cores question

i always keep this option off, cause i didn't see any difference in compatability or speed long time ago, and just wanna ask what this thing gives compatability or speed and in what cases, please someone explain

when multithreading is enabled it forces the emulator to lock the threads to a single core each, rather then letting them load balance.
