Netplay request !
hi, this is a request to the dolphin creators. for so long i really wished to to be able to play smashbros melee (or brawl with no delay as on wii, but especially melee) online with my friends with who i play ssb64. it would be soo great if dolphin had this feature. and then finally there could be online tournaments. melee works perfect with no bugs, so why shouldnt it have netply just like 64 has on kaillera. pleeeease make it possible greets, maddy |

You asked who would want to play it online?? Well.. I DO The smash bros series are good for two main reasons. 1) the simplicity of the controls 2) the unpredictable/funny situations you encounter when playing with friends. It's a kind of game that everyone can play, but only a few can master... Just don't go complaining about it, only 'cause you like button mashers/heavy 3D camera moving fighting games. |

Back to the thread... It looks like implementing Kaillera (or emulinker or anything else) wouldn't be too hard, the SDK is available and implementing it in Dolphin is not a problem, but as I understand it, (I never used Kaillera, I did take a look at the SDK, and how it works in MAME though) the only thing it reasonably does is passing gamepad input to another emulator. it means that if it was implemented, you would be able to play and have the same thing on screen as your opponent ONLY if you were playing with items disabled and in a small level without random stuff. I don't know if it's already like that in Project64k, though.

O rly? Then tell me this, smart guy... How can you do a final smash in Brawl without items? Got no answer? Aha! Items don't suck, buddy, they improve gameplay and give the SSB series a unique playing environment. |

You can always turn off every item but smash balls =) I Agree with Why-fi, but when you are trashing and oponent and a Hammer, bat, heart, maximium tomato, lands on its feets... you really can get mad xDD. Some player thinks that items are "cheap" in the long run, so they just play by "skill" AKA without them. It's a way of thinking and i... kinda agree =) |

@Why-Fi: no reason to get pissed off at me. its just my opinion and nothing more. im talking more about melee anyways. as kronoxrox already said, i want to play the game more skill like and less casual like. thats why i hate items, cause they dont show skill. so could u guys please stop going offtopic, thx |

So you're saying that because SSBM runs well enough that you want Dolphin devs to focus on implementing netplay instead of improving Dolphin, improving game compatibility, and squashing bugs? That sounds pretty selfish. For the Dolphin devs to spend even 1 minute on netplay at this point is a waste of time when you consider how much further they need to go towards proper GC/Wii emulation. Few games use netplay and even fewer use netplay and run well. I'm not saying it won't ever be implemented, but it's just not an important issue at this point in time.

hmm i dont care on which way i can play it online. obviosly kaillera seems to be a lot easier to realize. actually, if i knew how this dolphin works, i would at least TRY to implement it myself (i have c++ experience) it cannot be thaaat difficult, imo. actually its simply giving the control of the second player to another emulator as sl1nk3 mentioned already. most difficult part would be the syncronisation probably. |
