When will it be "perfect"

Hey there, great work with the open source guys, really impressed to see how far it's come.

I know these things take time, and I was hoping that some people that were experianced in the emulation scene could give me their take on when they think dolphin will be "perfect", bearing in mind that it's now open source and a lot of talented people are working on it daily.

I say "perfect" I mean, for example the same level as something like project64 is to n64 or zsnes to snes etc..

Thanks in advance.

nextgen emulators do not get perfect. Only keep improving. It would be unreasonable to expect perfection and this soon too.

So much has happened and improved in mere few months. The progress in the next 6 months should be nice to witness. Great improvements should be to expect, given the current "dolphin way" for handling feedback and contributions from advanced users.

thanks for the replies. I know it takes time, i'm guessing that it's not "easy" compared to the old old school emulators either. Why can't everyone open their emu's up to open source hey?

Hoo long time...perfect lol.
I can barely believe how far the emulator got since its source was released...I mean, I remember when I played few games on 5FPS with graphical glitches everywhere and now it's almost fully playable.

As much as we'd wish others considered that, it is still their code after all ;p
The visible benefits of having opensourced Dolphin might inspire others to do the same, who knows.

great stuff, I'm not a big user of it at current, just holding out till the command line feature and widescreen are supported, but at the rate updates are made it shouldn't be too long, fingers crossed.

not even project64, epsxe, or even NES emulators are "perfect"

Perfection is an unattainable dream for most emulators, as long as HLE is used and hardware is not capable of fullspeed LLE.

It is not because the other projects are unfinished that the dolphin should also be.

But Squall is still right with his post. He didn't say Dolphin would be left behind the other or anything like that. But you all have to know that there always is something that can be improved even more. No one could ever tell when an emu could be considered "finished". The coders have worked on Pj64 and ePSXe for years and still do it! So asking "timetable-questions" is always pointless in some way. Just watch the progress and be happy about every further step made. Everyone could guess but only the results can give us "answers".

Question

When will the Sun explode into a supernova? When will pigs fly? When will robots rule the world?

I don't know. No one knows. The same for dolphin. No one knows when it will be perfect. Just wait.

I think this thread should be locked.

I, too am patiently waiting for command line iso loading. I tell ya, a single frontend to control all your emulators is the future.
