Model ripping problems.

Kind of random question.

I rip 3d models from games to study from. (I'm a 3d modeler, and it's nice to see how professionals do things, so I can learn from them.)

Anyway, all the newer revisions of dolphin won't seem to work with any directx9 ripping tools. Was something coded in, to stop people from ripping models from games or something?

Download "Gamecube Tool", With that you can view the structure of the game and also extract individual files which may help with your importing.

That doesn't really help with Wii games.

And anyway, I know the file structure of the game I want to rip from.

It's much easier just ripping something from a dx9 app while it runs, than cracking an entire model format.

With normal model ripping, it's like a 2 second job to rip it. When ripping from files it can takes months to years to crack the format, as every game is different.

You didn't state it was Wii

All i can really suggest is to take a shot at modifying the DX plugin to be compatible with directx9 ripping tools.

Well it is.

I've been able to rip from Wii games before with no problems, but the game I want to rip from will not work in older revisions of Dolphin.

There's something changed in the emulators code that is messing with rippers in the newer revisions.

then:

a) hope for the best in future revisions.
b) have a go at finding out what is causing it in dolphin, It is an open source project.

No, I use 3DVIA printscreen.

Windows Vista does not go well with 3DRipper DX.

What program do you use to open the .3dxml file?

Explanation;
there are generic programs that intercept the 3D calls to the Directx9 driver.
3DRipperDX, 3DViA, and OGLE are the most common, if not the only ones we have available.

Problem;
3DripperDX only captures directx9 calls, alot of dolphin games only emulate properly in OpenGL. -3Dripper cannot be used 50% of the time.

3Dvia does both directx9 and opengl, but recently it hasn't been able to hook to dolphin -3Dvia no longer runs on the newer Dolphins, and the new ones are the only ones with enough Wii support to play certain games.

OGLE is strictly for openGL ripping only, but it seems that the openGL plugin used by dolphin uses a modified opg lib that causes OGLE not to capture properly -OGLE doesn't like dolphins OGL Drivers.

to sum it up, us 3d hobbyist are loving the new dolphin, but we're sad that we are unable to rip some of our favorite game characters.

I think jimmy and I just want to know if dolphin will get a better DX9 plugin, or if the emu itself will feature a builtin geometry dumper. not really caring about framerate, just compatibility.

Yeah, I remember that Project64 had a plugin by Lemmy, that would dump geometry. Maybe Dolphin will to (some day).

I'm having the same problem, only with OGLE/GLintercept. Replying just to see if anyone has found a solution to the problem since the last reply, as I'd like to be able to rip from Brawl. Version 1596 works, but Version 2745 does not. Somewhere in between it was altered... Maybe finding out where it changes would help, but that's a lot of versions to cover.

Yes, I think is't THE ONLY solution for this problem (and not only for Dolphin - for PCSX2 and NullDC too). The most right thing is include 3D ripping option in future versions of OGL (or DX) plugin.
