hardware upgrade

hello,

i´m using the dolphin-version 1310. i want to play gc mario kart dd. the intro runs with 30-40 fps, when the game starts, i´ve only 10-15 fps (R1310, < 10 with R1349).
my pc: vista home premium 32-bit, core2duo 6400 (@2,4 ghz), 2 gb ram, geforce 7950 gt.
now i want to raise the performance/the fps. which hardwaretype is better for it? change cpu or graphic?
new cpu: core2duo e8500 or 8600 or new graphic: msi 8800 gts - how can i get more fps? is quadcore better or not so important for fps?

i need silent hardware, because its a htpc...

is the hardware also ok for mario kart wii?

manymany thanks

forrest gump

the best hardware is a wii. you get full speed with online play and sound!

Fully unnecessary post.

@Forrest G.:
I think your specs are ok but you need a 64bit system for playing with much more speed.

@ChaosCode,

Everyone knows.... But it is not neccessary post to tell him that. He didnt asked for this, did he ?

@Forrest G:

Your specs is not bad but you need a 64bit system and 3.0ghz or above with more speed.

ok, thanks for your answers. i´ll try the 64-bit-version of vista.

i think for dolphin is the cpu-power more important, than the graphic-power, right? (3 ghz :-)
could i get no more fps with the change from 7950 to 8800 gts?

merci

for now, save yourself a little cash and try overclocking your cpu. if you're using the stock fan and heatsink, look to replace it (the arctic cooler 7 is a fantastic cooler, for very little. i picked one up for £14)

you can try overclocking on the stock fan (if you're using it) but i won't guarantee stability.

save yourself some money instead of upgrading JUST for this program, considering that it's not perfect just yet. for now just use xp x64, and overclock.
edit: sorry, i was just echoing the last guy's post

Hi. I think I'm in a good position to answer. I recently (today) upgraded my pc from a Core 2 Duo E6400 to a Core2Duo E8500. Result? HUGE DIFFERENCE
Games that were not even playable before now run at full speed. Like mario tennis (graphical glitches aside) Paper Mario

I say you should upgrade the CPU, it pays much more than a faster GPU in emulation at least.

PS: Also install Windows XP 64 or Vista 64, it makes a bid difference in Dolphin too.

I think I'm in a better position to answer this question. The answer is you need you PC balanced or you will end up with a bottleneck. What can you dump out faster a bottle of water or a bucket of water? Answer the bucket. This is because the mouth of the bucked is balanced with the size of the bucket and the bottle end up with a bottleneck. Now to put that is pc terms that means you want everything to be balanced to you don't end up with a bottleneck. If you have a really fast CPU (processor) and a slow GPU (graphics card) it will only go as fast as the video card, because it creates a bottleneck. And vice verse if you have a fast GPU and a slow CPU (sort of the case I'm in right now with my build) it will only run as fast as the CPU. But you can over clock both your CPU and your GPU to obtain better results. A very good combo for parts would be the Intel Core I7 920 and a Nvidia 260 GTX

What Bottleneck?,
I think the huge difference is because the latest dolphin support sse4.1, which e6400 does'nt have that instruction
note: i'm only using E7200 with lower cache than E6400, but support sse4.1, in default 2,53GHz, SSBMelee with 4 players is around 37-42fps,
in Overclocked mode (3,99GHz) I can reach up to 57-63fps
with only 9500GT DDR2 512MB which is barely same with 8600GTS, or it's not far with 7950GT

note: it's not worth to upgrade from one generation to same generation,
u shud buy a hsf ac freezer pro is awesome cheap,
and overclock up to 3GHz,
oh and does your motherboard support high overclocking, im afraid ur using value chipset mobo,

if u want to upgrade, i recommend core i7 920 processor, with 4870/GTX 260 216 to play further wii games
or wait for Phenom II, at least the motherboard that support Phenom II is cheaper

Want quiet HTPC system? Get the Core 2 E8600 3.33GHz and clock it to 3.60GHz on the Intel stock cpu cooler. An 8800 series from Nvidia is enough to run Dolphin Problem solved.

The most important thing is a fast cpu, vga fast or slow a bit .. will import -
many do better taking a c2d oc with a vga 7600 or 8500 .. and I with a HD4850 but athlon x2.

I recommend a good oc to that processor. and install windows xp sp2 x64
