Hmm, I wonder why the "visual" emulation part of wii games on dolphin is coming along faster then the "sound" emulation ?

The Wii/GC uses a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to process sound before it is sent to the audio system. The chip is harder to emulate to than graphics because with graphics we already have a GPU in our PC and an API we can use. The DSP is something that is not built into our PCs, it is a chip specialized to process audio data, so we have to make a small DSP emulator from all the knowledge we can find. There seems to be only 1 Doc on the GC's DSP, not sure about Wii, unless both system use the same DSP. When the game runs, it loads a ucode (a DSP program), into the DSP. You can load a MP3 ucode, and then have the DSP decode MP3 to RAW and then playback the raw. The DSP would write the RAW data back into memory, where the game find it and send it to the audio system. Also the CPU and DSP communicate to each other by a mailbox system.
