Quadcore?

-what's better for dolphin? Quadcore or dualcore?
-Can dolphin use the full power of all four cores?

Thanks for all answers!

Dolphin can and only will use Dual Core. Adding quad core support would have little to no benefit over dual core thus is not beneficial or worth the time to implement.

This means that even if they did implement quad core support there would be little or no performance difference over dual core, not to mention it could break compatibility even more than it is and actually make things worse instead of better.

The only way the emulator can get better speed wise is through optimization, code cleanup and improvements in emulation of the Gamecube.

Anyways Dolphin is already running most games at nearly if not full speed with a Core2Duo or Core2Quad so it's not worth implementing quad core as it wouldn't really offer any benefit.

This has been discussed numerous times in several threads and is even in some sort of faq if I am not mistaken, you would of found the answer to these question if you had performed a search before opening this thread.

sorry

sorry to bother you...

But I have still two question...:

-Can dolphin work on a quadcore?

-If i had a quadcore with 4X2.4Ghz could dolphin just use 4.8Ghz of the full 9.6Ghz?

Edit: Sorry for my bad english...

It will work on a quadcore pc but dolphin wont make use of the additional cores.

btw, core speed doesnt add.

a dualcore @ 2.4ghz means each core runs at that speed. Nowhere near 4.8ghz.

(example: mario sunshine)

Yes and No.

There is no min requirement for this emulator.

So for Mario Sunshine. Nothing runs it well enough to play.

No game on this emulator except super smash bros malee will play as good as it does on the gamecube itself.

I disagree. Several games run quite well despite having some graphics glitches[at least for me]:
PSO EP1&2
PSO EP3
Zelda: WW
SSBM
Zelda: TP[a bit slow, depends on the area, but that stupid TLB crash..]

SMS doesn't run bad for me, I think I get ~30-40 FPS with ~300 Mhz CPU speed, on my AMD x64 2.2Ghz Quad.

It's not all about the CPU. You should know that, sweetie. I had to learn that in a hard way, too.

I gained like 10+ fps more in Windows Vista x64 compared to x86 for Zelda: Twilight Princess (in some area). Some games you gain more some you gain less but it's also determined by your CPU speed too

My quadcore setup (q6600@2.4) only shows 25% being used from Dolphin, any idea how to shoot that up to 50? Dual Core mode is already enabled.
My setup is otherwise ideal for running fine (9800gx2, 8gb ram)

lecker is German for tasty? Must be the root of the Afrikaans lekker then. But it's slang. You guys do get good prices on hardware compared to what we pay here.
