Starting latest unoffical builds: nothing happens

First of all: great work from all of you here. I downloaded some unofficial Dolphin builds from various sites that have been linked to in this forum.

I've got a 32 bit Vista. When I double click DolphinWX.exe after download, nothing happens (I downloaded x86).

Is that something known? Am I doing anything wrong? Tried a lot of builds, but no difference. The final 1.03 works fine.

Latest version I got is 490 from Daco. Thanks for help to a newbie.

Did as you told me, nothing changed. Also, if there's an OpenGL mode, I don't see why I need DirectX to just start the GUI.

Again: I double click on the DolphinWx.exe, the sand-clock appears next to my mouse cursor and then vanishes. Nothing happens, no window, no GUI. I don't even see the executable for a short time in the Task Manager.

If you got 32 bit Vista, can you or anyone else point me to a build that works for you? Thanks again!

Because opengl is only the Video API, the rest is still DX (audio, and input)
add the exe to the DEP allow list, no i will not tell you how, google it.

I googled it, I did it, rebooted as Vista suggested, nothing changed. Still no start.

Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about. Even googling didn't help me in this case. Is that for compiling? I don't want to compile, I'd rather have ready binaries.

You don't have to compile anything, he is telling you to download the redist of VS2005 SP1 and VS 2008 SP1, which are some runtime DLLs that Dolphin uses in order to work.

VS 2005 SP1 Link: Download details: Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

VS 2008 SP1 Link: Download details: Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

Thankyou, omegadox. I tried this, but it's the same outcome. Anyway, I downloaded R260 from the link in your signature and that didn't work either.

Your readme.txt says:

Fast CPU with SSE2. Dual core a plus.
I think I don't have SSE2 (AMD Athlon XP 2200+) and so I guess it's not possible for me at all. I'm giving up.

However, thanks to all!

Sorry, but you won't be able to run the newer revisions as the Athlon XP processors lack the SSE2 instruction set.

It looks like you'll have to either upgrade or stick with the older pre-svn versions.

You can compile without SSE2 by changing a few files iirc.

Yeah, but at quite a performance hit which isn't good considering Athlon XP's aren't even all that strong to begin with, besides the fact he couldn't use dual core mode since the Athlon XP is single core.

It's not worth it unless he only plans on just testing games and not actually playing them. In any circumstances a Gamecube would be a much cheaper and viable option than the PC he would need to run Dolphin acceptably at a decent speed, not to mention a lot of games don't work or don't work properly and contain graphics issues, lack sound or crash.

It is not worth running Dolphin without SSE2 or any other CPU feature. Unless you want to play the game on 3FPS.

Ah, okay. Then my guess about the lack of SSE2 was correct. It would be nice, if there'd appear a little window that tells me:

Quote:
Hey, you! Your CPU seems to have no SSE2 capability, so why don't you give up!? Aborting now.

Thankyou, anyway! I am going to buy another computer in any case, and this time, it will be the hell of a machine! Hehe. Mine was, too. 8 years ago! Everybody envied me back then!

Just kidding! Thanks again!
