Post Fix For: (Can't Ever Start) Failed to grab 1 GB of contiguous memory!

If you're plagued by this error message, and get this any time that you try to start any game on the new dolphin versions- then just try the following to fix it.

Edit: These fixes don't fix the problem if it's caused by kaspersky, it only fixes it for any other reason that might be causing it- specifically when you can't figure out why you're even getting the error message. Though these can help if you don't have kaspersky installed, or you may need to do these anyway.

: Fix 1 :

Part 1: Right click on the 'dolphinwx' exe program in the dolphin folder, and click on 'Properties'. (img)

Part 2: Click on the 'Compatibility' tab in the newly opened Properties window, and then check the 'Turn off advanced text services for this program' box if it isn't already- which is located under 'Input settings' and then press 'OK'. (img)

Note: Restart the program after you set this value and have pressed ok on the properties window for it to take effect, everytime that you move the exe or rename it you'll have to set this value again.

: End Fix 1 :

If this didn't fix your problem, then try this next fix (this will also help if you ever get low on ram).

: Fix 2 :

Part 1: Right click on 'My Computer' on the Desktop, and click on 'Properties'. This can also be accessed from the 'System' icon in Control Panel, and various other ways. (img)

Note: To get the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop, right click on a free area on the desktop and click on 'Properties'- then click on the 'Desktop' tab- click on the 'Customize Desktop' button- then check the 'My Computer' desktop item box. After that just click OK on all of the windows that it opened, and you should have the icon on your desktop for it then.

Part 2: Click on the 'Advanced' tab in the newly opened 'System Properties' window, and then click on the 'Settings' button under 'Performance'. (img)

Part 3: Click on the 'Advanced' tab in the newly opened 'Performance Options' window, and click on the 'Change' button under 'Virtual Memory'. (img)

Part 4: Here in the newly opened 'Virtual Memory' window, select the drives that you have the iso/gcm file on- and also selecting and doing the following for the drive that you run the Dolphin program on won't hurt. Start by selecting the 'Custom Size' circle, and enter in atleast 1534 (MB) for the 'Initial Size' field, and atleast 3048 (MB) for the Maximum Size field. After you've done that for all of the drives that dolphin or the iso/gcm files are on, press 'OK' on all of the windows that were opened. Then it will prompt you to restart your PC, you need to restart your PC for these changes to take effect. So do that and then try running dolphin after the restart, this and Fix 1 should solve the error message whenever you try to run a game after newly opening dolphin. (img)

: End Fix 2 :

By doing both of these fixes it should solve the problem, you may only need to do 1 of these fixes. I was getting that error every time that I tried to run the new dolphin, so I found a simple way around it- and made this guide to help anyone else that also gets the error.

No, it doesn't fix the problem for me because it's 100% to do with Kaspersky. Thanks for the help though. I've taken to only installing it once a week to scan my computer and running AVG the rest of the time. Ah me.

I didn't know if it would work with that or not, but this fix is mainly for if you can't determine why you're even getting the error message.

If you have kaspersky, you can be 100% sure that it is the problem for this error message. Try putting it on compatibility mode and adding dolphin.exe to your trusted programs, but those didn't work for me. Neither does exiting out of Kaspersky. The only thing that works is uninstalling Kaspersky. But having said that, Kaspersky is proving to be a real nightmare.

gtfo.

Update to Kaspersky 2009, and rename the mozkbd dll files in the kis folder, if you use FF 3+ (its just a virtual keyboard which causes FF memory usage to break)

keep in mind that the first fix can also fix the "unsupported ogl extension errors"
---BUT ONLY WHEN YOUR GPU SUPPORTS THOSE EXTENSIONS---

Thoughts on what to do if none of the above conditions apply? I don't have kaspersky, advanced text services are off, virtual memory page limits are fine, 70 gigs free of space, and I defragmented to make sure that there was enough contiguous space... yet whenever I start a game with the DX9 video plugin, I still get the 1Gb memory message(and only DX9, OGL works just fine).
Any ideas on what could be causing this?

latest version attempted: Dolphin X86 r2131

Hello everyone, I had this problem too, but the antivirus program seems to quit being stupid, if the user adds the emulator in question to trusted zone, and adds exclusion rules for the Dolphin executables and Possibly the Image directories. Oh and I am somewhat annoyed at Kaspersky too... Good Day.

...First, make sure no program is using the same memory that Dolphin is going to use, for example, is not about a quantity but an adress, I was having a problem while having Flashget open, dolphin would not run because Flashget was using that memory adress.

Second, disable any program you could be using, in the system tray for example. and Try Again. If it was working it should work again.

To those having problems with this still I've found another possible cause is opening games with any of these methods:

Bad:
- File -> Open ...
- Hitting the "Open" button
- etc

The above all cause this error.

Good:
- This method will NOT cause the error: Options -> Configure -> Paths -> Add your rom path to the list -> close -> hit refresh -> click game -> hit play

This fixed it for me with FF4 After Years. Hope it will fix it for the rest of you too!

I had this annoying error for a long time and the only thing which fixed it was uninstalling Internet Explorer 8.
