does DeSmuME support .7z compression?
right now i have my game files in .zip format but was considering maybe using .7z instead. i've heard .7z compresses files much more than .zip and .rar secondly do you guys recommend using file compression at all? and if so, will it make any difference between whichever i choose? will playing a game that is compressed have any adverse effect on speed or loading or anything? i don't notice anything bad with how i have things set up so i'm just curious i guess. |

Thinking about hd prices now and nds rom sizes, I don't see the need to play them compressed. How many games do you have, 30+, I highly doubt you play more than 20. By the way, I don't have my pc with me, but you can test it yourself. Just compress a rom with 7zip and check if the emu is able to open it.

According to the manual: No. DeSmuME Manual Compression saves valuable disk space. When an emulator opens a compressed game ROM, it first decompresses it into RAM and executes it from there. The decompression process takes a bit of time, but it's generally a one-time thing that occurs only during the game load.

0.9.5 will support 7z, and anyway, I must ask the question I am eternally curious about whenever someone asks about something that can be tested in 5 seconds: why dont you try it and see?

a. i don't see what business it is for people to wonder about why i want to. so thanks for the unhelpful reply Silenus. but hey, just to satisfy you curious people i have a usb drive i want to store them on. i would rather save as much space as possible. b. zeromus yeah, so simple it takes 5 seconds to test. yeah, maybe if i was in front to of the computer that i have the game on. but guess what, i'm not. so not so easy now is it. |

Zipping a DS rom still gets more compression than using ntfs compression.........
