The issue with the doors is making FFIV totally unplayable for me. I can't leave the first room in castle. How did you manage to get in battles??

To be more specific as to how to play FFIV in DeSmuMe:

Start up iDeaS, load your FFIV rom, play till you can save the game (just outside of baron). Close iDeaS.

Open DeSmuMe. Load the -exact same FFIV rom- in the same location (the .sav file with it is what is important). Load that save file. Voila, you're in the world. At the moment, however, you can't zone back INTO Baron, castle or city. I'm pretty sure you can't zone into the cave to mist either. So... you can play in iDeaS temporarily to get through doors.

I did speak with someone in the #desmume channel on freenode, and they were working on finding a solution, but no ETA on said solution.

Enjoy!

Update: I played up through having Tellah join up via switching with the game's "quicksave" feature (quicksave in DeSmuME, close, open iDeaS, change zones, quicksave in game, close, open DeSmuME, continue playing). It's a touch of a hassle, but since DeSmuME runs the game so much better than the others, and does NOT have that godawful text glitch (I have -yet- to see a text glitch in DeSmuME), I continue to flop back and forth. So far, out of maybe 5 hours of gametime (both playing and trying various methods of fixing the issue, and getting information for the aforementioned someone in #desmume), i spent maybe 30 minutes or an hour total in iDeaS; most of that was specifically to get certain .sav states for testing purposes. To simply play, I'd put it at about 10 minutes an hour running in iDeaS (worse in some places).

I would do so with no$gba instead of iDeaS (as iDeaS seems to just run awfully), except no$gba uses a completely different save format, and converting it does not seem to work with 2.6a.

SVNs keep getting better and better

Anyway, what kind of frames are you getting with FFIV? For me, it works great when you're inside the first castle, but the game gets real slow when you walk outside into the courtyard or something.
