DeSmuME CVS Builds

I compiled the latest CVS revision of DeSmuME from their page on SourceForge. The compiler used was Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 with full optimization and the latest version of the DirectX SDK.

Latest Build: 2008-04-19

I've been applying patches and working on it from time to time, mainly as an answer to homebrew developers requests. Nothing major, just transparency, bugs and crash fixes, and a zillion other small fixes (for example, this). I wanted to do a release once I added some stuff (faster speed and support for games using the GFX FIFO) and sorted other non coding related issues, but seing it's released already, there isn't much point :P

However this version (released now) not compares with your version... So if you want to release...

Mainly your GFX FIFO implementation (non-public yet)

I just compiled the latest build, 2008-04-19. It looks like the developers are planning to release v0.80 soon.

It was meant to be a surprise. Stop building CVS versions, or atleast stop announcing them here, else I will stop supporting the win32 port and you won't be able to compile anything. If you knew a new release was coming, you could have let us the surprise, it's quite obvious.

Oh, and if you don't stop Desmume builds, I will stop any desmume public work. Forever. Take this as an official announcement, or whatever.

Well, I was quite motivated to release and commit more code: after all this time, seeing the project take off again was nice. This type of things just make me avoid contributing. AT ALL. So keep your "funny" comments somewhere else if you don't have anything constructive to say.

i understand he shouldnt have said about 0.80 but not about stop CVS builds, this goes against EVERYTHING open source is. Is like to say "this project may be open source but dont make your own version from it" after all,it isnt against forum rules.

Nope, open-source has nothing to do with an open CVS. We could always close the CVS and only update it when a binary is released. Of course there are other ways to see it, but if he saw that a new version was going to be released, he could have used his brain to see that the CVS build was unneeded. I guess it was our mistake having an open CVS.

The problem is that without having an open CVS, we avoid any people without CVS access to contribute to the project, thus killing quite a lot the project. In the past we had sort of "unofficial builds" done by amponzi, and we warned him when we were approaching a release, as common sense applies then: just wait for the official release. Here, it was known and still released, which is the reason that I'm asking him to stop. Keep in mind, that imho, closing CVS means killing the project, plain and simple.

in respects of the developer, im closing this and removing the link.

If they do not wish for CVS builds to be distributed (at least right under their nose) then you have to respect that.
