Cxbx compatibility list (Updated September 21, 2008)

I'm sure this thread might get locked/deleted, but oh well, do what you must. I think it's about time we kept track of what Cxbx is capable of doing so that every new person to Xbox emulation can know what to expect. Also, I'm just crossing off one thing on sir Caustik's todo list.

1. Turok Evolution
Status: (Playable)
Notes:
Minor glitches in some levels, level 6 does not render. No sound.
Screen(s): See Cxbx homepage

2. Battle Star Galactica
Status: (*PAL* Ingame, *NTSC* Intros)
Notes:
Minor glitches. Crashes on x86 WBINVD instruction.
Screen(s): 1 2 3 4

3. Panzer Dragoon Orta
Status: (Menus)
Notes:
Minor glitches. Shows black screen and/or crashes when going ingame.
Screen(s): 1

4. Halo: Combat Evolved
Status: (Menus)
Notes:
Major glitches. Incorrect textures. Texture filtering not present. No sound. Only runs in debug mode!

5. Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Shows dirty disc error.
Screen(s): 1

6. Unreal Championship
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Crashes when trying to play videos. A skip video hack might solve the problem.
Screen(s): 1

7. Myst III
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Shows loading screen, then shows dirty disc error screen. It's a problem related to NtCreateFile causing false errors.
Screen(s): 1 2

8. Genma Onimusha
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Shows some highly distorted garbage on the screen and then crashes.
Screen(s): 1

9. Smashing Drive
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Shows intro screens, then crashes at random locations.
Screen(s): 1 2

10. Futurama
Status: (Playable)
Notes:
Minor bugs. Only PAL version's compatability confirmed.
Screen(s): 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11

10. Celebrity Death Match
Status: (Ingame)
Notes:
Major glitches. Mostly texture related issues. Only PAL version's compatibility confirmed.

11. 4x4 Evo2
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Just shows the intro screen. Only PAL version's compatibility confirmed.
Screen(s): 1

12. Star Wars: Clone Wars
Status: (Intros)
Notes:
Ditto. Only PAL version's compatibility confirmed.
Screen(s): 1

I heard somethin about Antz Extreme Racing showing an intro movie, but I have to actually buy that game and try it myself.

delete rayman arena from the compatible list.
this is not playing intro`s with the default branch from caustik..

this was tested with a special branch from KingOfC in 2002... wich never have been promoted / inserted in the default branch by caustik.

so rayman change`s are gone..... and intro is not playable with the cxbx source.

Rayman removed. I wish Kingofc would come back and share his work with us so it can become part of the mainstream code, but oh well... I guess I'd better keep working...

OMG, I am russian too, and I barely understand you. Anyway - you can't PLAY anything using xbox emus (both of them) - they are not THAT advanced. Just wait (maybe for a couple of years?) or play it on your xbox. You DO have a xbox, don't you?

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is not playable. Don't expect to run that anytime soon. Everything that works (as far as we know) is on the compat list. There are tons of games that haven't been tested, but it takes time to find good candidates (based on known and available XDK) to emulate on Cxbx.

plz dont bite my head off with this question im a noob 2 xbox emulation, i only emulate gameboy.


is the listed games above the only games that this emu emulates? or is the list, a list of what doesn't get emulated 100% perfectly? or....

It's a list of what has been shown to work. FYI, most of these games won't work in the latest release of Cxbx. They are mainly the results of private betas that sir Caustik, martin, and I have been working on. My branch hasn't been uploaded to the SVN yet. Turok is the only playable game that you can play from beginning to end, the rest just show menus, intros and other random garbage. There may be more games, but they just haven't been tested yet.

Alive and kicking mate, but one thing I'm curious about, has anyone tried the suggested skip video hack for Unreal Championship and had any results?

What 4 consoles are you going to buy? Because I think that price of Core2Duo processor is not THAT high.
And you DO know that if you want to use the emulator you HAVE to own the console itself, don't you? Because if you don't, you'll get no help here.

Yeah, I know it's a bit old, but I never did get the skip video hack working for that game yet. With this game it's complicated because it doesn't use anything like bink videos (which are easier to skip), so some more reversing needs to be done to find out what is causing the crash when trying to play the videos. This particular game is rather frustrating to work on because of it's internal complexity, but I haven't given up yet. Sometimes when I get frustrated with a project, I just walk away from it for a while, and end up learning more than I did before. I ended up fixing alot of bugs that way.

btw, I just wanted to edit the list and show that only the PAL version of BattleStar Galactica works so far. I just bought the NTSC version this afternoon (along with 3 other games). Is anyone interested in seeing this run at all?

Thank you for the post mate, the hack theory had me so curious.

I am extremely interested in seeing what will run. I'd be testing all the games I got (and I got a butt load), but Alas I don't have the necessary equipment to backup my disks nor the confidence.

If you want to read your Xbox discs without a modded Xbox, check out this thread: Adaptor allows original xbox games to be read on pc - Emuforums.com

This is what I use to dump my games since my Debug Xbox is crapping out on me. Buy this drive, then flash it with the firmware, and you're all set. btw, if you find out you have any games using XDK 4361 or 4627-5028 (exclude 4831 games), let me know Games with those XDK versions have been hard to come by. In the meantime, I'll see if I can surprise you with another game (hopefully)
