Pre-Release

I got overlays (i.e. turok's xmv intro) working on hardware that doesnt support YUY2 on X8R8G8B8 surfaces. This means some of you who couldnt see the animation before should now be able to.

This is not an official release, so please dont post news on this, you can grab the pre-release here:

http://www.caustik.com/cxbx/download/pre/Cxbx.exe
http://www.caustik.com/cxbx/download/pre/Cxbx.dll

(grab both)
I also have a speedier technique that will display the overlay in black/white. I'll have this toggle in a future release.

Let me know if this works for anybody who was unable to see the movie before now.

Re: Pre-Release

I've got a Intel P4 2,4GHz, 512MB RAM and a GeForce 4 Ti.
Speed is like watching the movie on Xbox

But I wonder that my Geforce not played the movie before. I always thought the Ti is a very good and compatible card.

Re: Pre-Release

Addition: I still get no picture with my old pc (AMD 900Mhz, Riva TNT 2 Ultra, 256MB RAM). Turok and XMarbles have both a black screen.

I get an error when choosing Hardware Accelerated Direct3D, and with Software mode I get the black screen.
But don't waste your time in supporting these old cards

Re: Pre-Release

XMarbles is working on my P4. I never played it, but I get into the game and I see the different coloured balls.

knatsch, you probably dont actually have a working REF driver, thats why you get a black screen. what error do you get when in hardware accelerated mode?

Also, your geforce4 should work without the software overlay simulation, as long as it enumerates YUY2 textures/overlays on the device. If it doesnt, I think with a machine like that you'll be fine with the software simulation, as your CPU can easily keep up with it. Could you dump your d3dcaps (if you have the tool), and send it to me?

On my geforce2, i have YUY2 support, but only when the display is in 16bit mode. Since xbox games need 32bit, it's necessary to use the software simulation. That box is also only 933mhz, so it plays at slightly less than xbox-speed (unless i settle for grayscale YUY2) This is totally expected, though :]

Sorry for the late answer, but i needed some sleep

1) The Error Message is: Emu 0x2D8 Received Fatal Message ->
IDirect3D8::Create Device Failed (Invalid Display Settings?)

2) My Geforce4 isn't able to display in Software mode. I do not now this
d3dcaps, but if you tell me where to download I will try it out!

3) I'm running W2k with 32Bit mode. Even in 16Bit mode I don't get a picture in Software mode.
