Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

What exactly would you need for progress to go along faster? Hard drive, new motherboard, etc.? 'Cause I have money to give. I just want to know if it will actually help the project. And if not, give a little payoff for your hard work

Board

I have an older board that I was going to put on Ebay. May it will fill the void until he gets a better Motherboard and Proc. It's a Gigabyte SINXP1394. Good board just older.

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

hey computer i agree maybe each person can donate a part or money for specific things and its good he will be able to donate a decent chunk of time to whoever gave financial help to him i wouldnt mind sending a 120 gb drive to fit isos on and the such if that is any bigger then any drive u have now caustik. or more ram i could help with that anything i can do tell me and ill try.also if u own xbox games use winmx if u have cable or dsl they have mad xbox and ps2 isos and it doesnt have spyware. i want this emulator to be as beneficial to emulation as nesticle was which was the first great emu for nes. and caustik have u ever considered finding a group of talented programmers and working on your own os to compete with the current ones.?

Is the fact that you paused the development also the reason that the cvs sourcecode is not available anymore?

CVS has been up on the OpenXDK sourceforge page for months and months and months :]. However, cxbx now has its own sourceforge page!

Yeah, sneaky

I do not remember that this was told, so sorry if this was meant to be a secret

It was very strange that you announced to pause development (due to hardware problems) and that the project also disappeared. I really think you are doing a great job. I am trying to figure out how the stuff works and i am compiling it with .net 2003. As i told in another thread (turok movie) i have to make some adjustments to the source to get it compiled.

But the cxbx project is just relocated and i will try to checkout the sources at the new location. It is still possible to get it with anonymous access?

Good luck with the development and perhaps your new supercomputer

What you meant by this ??? I don't get what the point is. Are you calculating what kind of PC that would run Cxbx?

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

hmm well if it was emulating the hardware and **** and not the software im guessing even that wouldnt do 60 fps on cxbx probably need over 20 gbs of mem bandwidth at least 24 i think. but since caustik is doing it a smart way i think maybe 3 or 3.2 with the newest cards would be good enuff trick is to get someone to get caustik one of the best cards

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

Sigh. If some people just knew more about xbox and emulation. Processor is IPIII (x86). Caustik is emulating software, not hardware. If any hardware, very minimal.

So a good processor for cxbx would be about 1.6

I'm saying that because look how much an xbox does other than running a game. ok. Now think about how much crap YOUR computer does while its running a game. If you look at your task manager (W2k or XP) Look at all the stuff your computer runs. Plus the fact that windows takes up a good part of memory. So increase your memory a smidgen. Xbox DOES have an OS, but it's less than 3 MB in size so, think about it. Just because the hardware is almost identical, doesnt mean the specs will be (for those of you who think 'Hey my 750mhz will work great!') If you have a KILLER video card and a grip of memory then maybe. You will get a lot of jitters and jumpiness. You need insurance. Beefier than the original is better, sorry to say.

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

I don't think running routine stuff in the background will take more than 1% of the CPU's time during most cases (unless, of course, you're running something demanding like KaZaA or something like that... but that's your problem then)... how fast a CPU you'll need to emulate XBox depends on how much overhead it'll need to convert various things. Assuming it can get near or total XDK API compatability with the right video card, you could probably pull off XBox emulation with a 1GHz or so P3/Athlon (faster for P4) and 128+MB of RAM. This is just a very crude estimate though...

The underlying point is that you probably won't need a computer considerably more powerful than XBox itself because the overhead of running WinNT isn't that great. And most XBox games probably don't use XBox at full capacity 100% of the time (this is very hard to do with anything, although they probably engineer it to get pretty close in some games)

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

AFAIK, the min requirements for running CXBX still not available yet, even by the emu author.

Re: Cxbx is temporarily paused

no silver if they werent doing hle and emulating the software then it would take a very powerful pc like around 3 ghz the way aaron is doing it will make it so maybe a 1.6 ghz with a gfx would run it full speed. but like i said earlier im pimping mine out and hopefully when i get a xbox for like 150 somewhere by november close to christmas i could make isos of the games i buy such as ninja gaiden and doom3 but thank god i have castlevania: lament of innocence pre ordered lol since like 2 months ago. maybe more like 3.that game is hot.
