Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

I *strongly* advise the people who want to read original xbox games on their pc to read the samsung 616t drive tutorials at www.xbox-scene.com and then search the forums for "616t" at www.xboxhacker.net so they understand the issues involved. I suspect that the forum post the original poster referred to is a post that I made there and that stinkyd (a programmer that is working on a samsung xbox driver app) answered.

The samsung 616t (or 616f) is the *only* pc drive to my knowledge that currently can be modded to read original xbox games. It furthermore it can only read them if it is plugged into an xbox instead of a pc. On the other hand as the modded samsung drive will still read dvd/cds BUT NOT ORIGINAL XBOX DISKS in a pc after modification it proves that the firmware of the modded drive can be used to read originals if/when stinkyd's application is made public.

Btw, I think I read in a reply stinkyd made to caustik in the www.xboxhacker.net forums that he has already got unlocking/decrypting xbox disks done.

Interesting stuff. Anyways, I know that the eject button on the front of the box sends a signal to the bios which opens the drive. And thats why you have to mod the samsung drive with wires. What makes the samsung drive so unique?

I understand that a Xbox emu is nothing like a C64 emu which can never get 100% accurate. I believe the Xbox emu can get 100%, except the drive.

The interresting thing would be to find out if the decryption is dont within the xbox drive or if it is done elsewhere in the Xbox. If it is within the drive, maybe you could mod the drive to work in a PC.
Buy a defective Xbox a steal the drive from it...
Very good point.I dont have an xbox to get games from, thank you very little, everyone.. Furthermore, the decryption is in the drive and the motherboard firmware. Bummer. I was hoping to read discs in my comp.If someone emulates the hash crap WITH the drive firmware, we're in business. Read the link posted by duke.I think there's some good stuff in there.I haven't read it all yet.Sounded promising...

(EDIT) Never mind.Never went anywhere and the thread was closed.Let's hope that doesn't happen here. Look at my motto...

Ok, listen the Xbox DVD doesn't read backwards or from outside to inside... non of that crap!!!. its your MOSTLY standard DVD the difference between a computer DVD drive and the XBOX on is that the "head" that moves to read the data on the computer drive is on the outside... and on the XBOX its on the inside... It's hard to explain in words but i could send some of you a drawing ... so the basic problem with reading and XBOX disc on a comp DVD is that you will miss some of the inside track.

Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

pro-logic: Do you mean the second layer of the dvd, or the closely packed tracks that lie in the dvdring around the center of the disc? I'm rather sure that someone could write some sort of emulation software for a pc dvd-rom drive, but it would have to be a drive-specific emu....

Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

I didn't believe that the discs went backwards. That kind of rumor has gone around about 7th gen consoles as well( assuming that this is 8).I DID think that the xbox discs are encoded outside to in. I think that THAT is true and what you are saying is probably true. Caustik or TS would most likely know.Send me a pic if you have one to alexo@kastler.com

Well, basicly, there is nothing to post here. Unless:
a)stinkyd releases his thinger (no rude thoughts)
or,
b) some one else releases one
so, only time will tell

Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

mm it seems that you people cant read 'any' files on the pc? now I find that weird.
Cos I can read them in my Philips dvdrw416
I can even play them with power dvd,
i'll get te see an xbox logo and a short movie telling me that i should try to put the disc in a real xbox. :}
Yes its true that I can only see 13mb of data (UDP Filesystem).
but this means that the discs dont rotate counter clockwise and its unlikely that the xbox reads from the outside in, for that would mean you'd have to see a visible 'change' of cylinders around the center.
analisys show that session 01 track 01 starts at the regular 0-point. meaning the pc/dvd-data has to be on the inside. and I can't see no line or anything, it has te be there unless last sector used by the xbox is directly after the cluster where the pcdata left off, that sounds unlikely dont it?

--- edit ---
oops, guess i was wrong, looking at the discs more closely i can
see two visible circles, theres a 5mm gap between them (prolly unused by either dvd nor xbox data)
well it would make sense if the dvd data is on the inside of the two circles and the xbox data is on the outside of the outer ring...

Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

its like the DC disc's, and that post just made you look like a complete n00b... (everyone with a dvd drive can see that 13mb bit with the logo and the please insert into xbox thinger, they say cant read anything, they mean of actual game data)

I read somewehere in the web that the encryption key for the xbox games is 256bit(or maybe 128,i cant remember) & someone found a hole in the game james bond 007 that allows to findout how xbox decrypts the key.Just saying that if u dont know it already

Everyone is also forgetting, it's not just the format of Xbox disks that keep them from being read in a PC. They are also encrypted and need a hash formula that is stored in the Xbox to be read correctly. (Like the Original DIVX, they were 128 bit encrypted and no one has been able to read one in a pc yet) The Xbox hardware can read it on the fly, because it is designed too. On A pc, just to decode on byte of data code in theory take months, just to determaine the hash byte used to decode that byte.

This is one of the reasons I don't think people should get there hopes up of EVER reading an xbox dvd on a PC. Demand isn't that high to do so, since it is very simple to just make the iso directly from the xbox.
If microsoft was able to do it, why can't we? They're just people. But I also understand they are people with a lot more resources than us but, nonetheless, I'm sure there is a time efficient way to do it. Of course it would be too much to do hardware, but if we knew how it did it then we could code a program and we would be in business. We need to find documentation for such a thing. Or find someone very skilled in the art of xboxing( yes, xboxing).

Might I add that I don't have an xbox to extract iso's from.

Re: xdvdfs filesystem driver for windows

Microsoft has the origin key, The Key used to ENCODE them. We do not. That is the issue. It's like 128 bit encrypted browser's. Or Some types of satelite cards that offer security. unless you know how to unlock it, it would take years to brute force your way in.

I see. Any way we can get a hold of something such as a key to unlock it? I know I don't make much sense. Please bear with me.
