XMV movies playing

This is not a fake...

You will see this for yourself in 0.7.7 (whenever i get around to releasing)

Please note that this is an xmv movie, the graphics are not rendered by the 3D API, they are stored in an .xmv file and rendered to a surface.

I have not optimized the rendering at all, and there are unnecessary memory copies happening, but despite this I have no problems turning off vsync and getting 10 to 20x speed on my 2.6ghz + radeon 9500.

You really have to see this to believe it.

wow, great work!

just a silly question:
does it only work with turok? or should it theoretically be possible "play" other games? I mean do you code in general, or only to get turok working with cxbx?

btw sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand what i mean.

Re: XMV movies playing

Turok just happens to be the only game I have on my hard disk right now. Others should come along as I fix more bugs and add support for more Direct3D/DSound/Networking/Etc. Also it will help to get more XDK versions supported.

Re: XMV movies playing

I doubt you'll find any other games working (except homebrew), simply because not alot use the same XDK version as Turok. I am becoming increasingly fast at supporting new XDK versions (my x86 reverse engineering skills are improving :]), and I may dedicate some time soon to support different versions.

XMV are an xbox specific WMV type of file. Honestly I havent even looked at their similarities, as the game just displays it on its own, it does all the file loading, parsing, decoding, etc, I just render the YUY2 data onto an overlay surface.

The beautiful thing about emulation is this sort of emergant behavior. As the base level is laid down, things just start to work. We'll be seeing alot of action from Cxbx in the upcoming months, its very exciting.

Re: XMV movies playing

Yes it really is. How do you find out what xdk games use?

The xbe header contains information on the libraries used. You can get the library version from there i.e. you can deduce which XDK was used.

Turok isn't working for me. After the Aclaim Logo i see an error exception [0xc000005]@0x10005F26.

Why i cannot see the intro movie? I've turned on/off Vsync but the problem is the same.

Is there anything else we need to know?

Thank you for you answer and CXBX... it's GREAT !
