Re: can't read xbox games?
The X-box discs cannot be read in a regular CD/DVD drive.

Its Possible But They Cannot Be Read
It Looks Like Xiso And And Another One Called Gdf Image Are Capable Of Dumping Images And Writing Them To Dvds
But These Images Can Not Be Read On A Pc Because There Image Format (disc Format Is Not Supported ) But Assuming The Data Being Dumped Is Accurate And Apperntly It Is By Reading Forums Regarding These Programs ... One Can Assume That A Driver Can Be Written That Will Translate The Image Format So A Pc Can Access It ... But As It Stands Now Xiso And Gdf Image Are Only Good For Making Backups Of Xbox Games And These Programs Are Of No Use To Cxbx At This Time .... |

thats really cool if your dvd drive is reading the contents of a xbox disk /image
im sure we would like to know the make and model of your dvd drive and any other details regarding your setup . because its current thought that xbox disks are unreadable in pc's i.e. through explorer without the aid of some software a screen shot of the of the discs content would be cool to

perhaps i better clarify what i am doing, ( JLMS/liteon 166S dvdrom ( standard latest firmware )
my computer+explorer cannot see the contents of the dvd at all. using this very easy tutorial: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/extract-iso.php xiso ( http://www.yursoft.com/index.php?pagina=xboxutils.php )can see the contents + extract the full contents ( just over 4 gigs ).this is how i applied the nude patch to the default.xbe & datadvd.afs files from DOAXBV( the link i provided translated from spanish to english w/alta vista expains it better ) somehow xiso can do this with whatever software it uses ( much like isobuster extracting a full dual layer dvd i guess ) my original question should have been can the games be played off the extracted iso only. Well we are talking about retail disc, right?..
It is not possibly to read the data of a retail xbox game disc with xiso unless the drive supports the discs. And you will never be able to read "any" type of discs in xbox dvd format with windows explorer. As previusly stated ofcourse it is possibly to read ordinary cdr and dvdr written in xbox dvd format with xIso. Say have you ever exchanged your xbox drive with another dvd drive. Are you then able to read original xbox game discs? no, but you can ofcourse read your burnt xbox dvds with homebrew software, that uses the xbox dvd format. |

My samsung sm 308b dvd/cdrw with firmware e101 can't read original xbox disks with or without xiso.
When I click on "Read XDVD" (the magnifying glass and cd by the drive model) xiso complains that "The inserted CD/DVD dont have a XBOX filesystem." wether or not there is a disk in the drive. Perhaps it would read copies but it can't read originals for me. |
