Re: can't read xbox games?

Not quite. The drive would be able to read the disks if there was an app publicly available that could read them.

There are a few posts at the bottom of this link that may be of interest if you are thinking of flashing the samsung 616t.

Not firm wire, but firmware. And of course the matching DVD ROM also needed. You can't put that firmware into another DVD ROM type.

Re: can't read xbox games?

I wish someone would write a fake firmware/driver for reading the XDVD filesystem... Does anyone have a clue how to do that?

OK, let me explain once again! Firmware is only specific to one type drive only ! For example Pionner 116 R firmware can only be used in Pionner DVD 116R only, not 117, 118, 118 or 120 !!! So ... it's till impossible.

Re: can't read xbox games?

no. I what I mean is a driver that can direct any dvdrom/rw drive to read an XDVD - Make a standard xdvd filesystem reader. I can see a problem with that, yes - it would take a long time to create such a thing, - but think of the possibilities. Just force a drive to read the data backwards, and have the computer invert it back into a viable source. It's possible, - an XBOX DVD emulation driver.

Ok thanks to you all. And does someone knows where to get the firmware for dvds (like a good database of dvd firmwares)?

Re: can't read xbox games?

everyone should just forget about reading xbox dvd's ona pc for now, if/when such a way is developed it will be released, in the meantime, THERE IS NO WAY TO DO IT.
It's not a hard concept. No matter what Firmware your dirve has, you still can't read an original Xbox dvd. There is more to it than that. Besides. Even on the samsung drive, after flashing it, you still have to do some soldering just so the motor's turn the right way. Maybe an admin should make a sticky in big bold letters stating this. Before some start screwing up there DVD drives trying to flash them.

Nah, thats what my point to. Universal firmware, may be a good idea, but I'm pretty sure that the creator may make the program for each DVD drive and that will cost hell time, since [once again] each DVD type must be flashed with it's type firmware.

Firmware for what? If for regionless [RPC1], get it here.

Re: can't read xbox games?

There is no way to make a universal Firmware, there are Thousands of different CPU's, Flash rom, hard wired Rom, Micro Controllers, etc... used in Drives. It's impossible to make firmware that will work in all.

So what you saying is that dvdroms (anytype) cannot read original Xbox dvds. If yes: a)What's the point of all this hard work to make xbox emulator for pc when you even cannot read xbox dvds on pc in first place? b)Are you working for micro$oft? If no: just say how to do it (if you know how).

I updated the sticky with some more info regarding the firmware.... Do not ask where to get it for your drive..... chances are we don't know and it is a "grey area" by itself. It is a well known fact that PC DVD-ROMS cannot read retail Xbox games.... However from what I am seeing they can read "backup" or pirated copies of the games. Talking along these lines is strictly against forum rules... Read what DPence says about it... his information is accurate. Topic is locked for its own good.
