Question CXBX requires XP?

Does it?
I'm running 98, and nothing works so I assume so.

Oh well
One more reason to upgrade.

running riot i have the same prob you have. CXBX (caustix xbox emulator...YEAH i got the translation ) starts but when i try to start emulation then 2 popups appear. The one says something like this:

The target for the shortcut of the file C:\.... is not allowed with less
than 0x1000.
Please repair the fault and try again.

The second popup says:

Emulation failed

Try converting again. If this message repeats, the Xbe is not
supported.

I tried emulating the demos from #xbins, xsnes9x and even BreakoutX3Dv13 ^^ . Its the same fault every time.

my specs:

Win 98 SE
AMD Athlon XP 2400 +
Gainward GF 2 Ti 500 XP Golden Sample
Asus A7V8X
512 MB DDR-RAM PC 333
Muse 5.1 DVD

ah and btw plz excuse my bad english i'm german

Re: CXBX requires XP?

Actually it makes sense that the emulator only works on Win 2000 and XP. The Xbox console uses a Windows 2000 kernel...based on NT technology (same as XP).

Good to hear it still works on Win2k.

Cxbx is dependant on NTDLL and DirectX, so any system that is capable of providing those dependencies can run it. It's entirely possible that you could see Cxbx running on a linux system on WINE. I havent gotten a chance to work on this, because WINE is annoying to install on my slackware box (too many packages needed to download, etc).

Win2k and XP have NTDLL, so thats why they both work. From what i've heard, WINE has some support for NTDLL, and some support for DirectX, so i'd hope to see it working on Linux some day :]

No.... You can't use 98 or ME to run CXBX as they are not Windows NT based. Windows 2000 and XP are based off NT...

Re: CXBX requires XP?

Compatibility probs with what? If he can give specific answers then just run a check to see if your hardware is supported (I think microsoft had a program on their website that does this) and tell him there is no problem.
