DVD-rw that can read X-Box games?
Does anyone know if there is a DVD-rw with an appropriate hacked firmware that can read X-Box games?
I know this sounds suspicious, but I have a Shuttle XPC with only one drive bay, and I'd like to get all the use out of it as possible, and I have no X-Box, and don't have the nerve to solder anything to something that expensive anyway. Thanks. |

Re: DVD-rw that can read X-Box games?
I've heard of a samsung drive with the correct firmware and some modification that can be used as a replacement drive for the xbox but not on a pc.
Anyway, just buy a xbox, those are cheap these days... |

They aren't that expensive, but they aren't cheap enough to be soldering stuff to ;-). I need a DVD-rw anyway, so I'd still like to know if anyone knows of a DVD-+RW that can read X-Box games.

Aren't XBOX using standard DVD discs? What's special about them?

Re: DVD-rw that can read X-Box games?
CAV is just a way of writing data on a disc, it doesn't prevent you from reading datas, my old yamaha cd burner is a CAV burner
. the protection resid in random unreadable sectors making the disk unreadable by a standard dvdrom. It's a bit like those cd audio protection but a step further.

Re: DVD-rw that can read X-Box games?
Did you read what I said? It can't be read on a regular dive.
The reason I mentioned CAV is because the X-Box drive is CAV, which means that it'll read the outside of the disc faster. CAV is not the protection. The fact that the data is essentialy back to front is.
