I am following the progress of cxbx for some time now and have to say I am very impressed at the speed the develpment goes. (Keep up the good work

)

I never realized that I have to change my firm ware of my DVD to read the disc's.
And I dont like the Idea of messing with my firmware.... (firm ware is hardware specific... accidentally using the wrong firmware (if one exist for my type of drive) and away is my drive...)

But how big are those xbox images really? Do they really use up the entire X-Box DVD?? (of course games differ in size) But how many games are over 700mb in size? all? none? few?? a lot???....

Maybe I should find a lager Harddisk.... :P

Actually when I dumped my Capcom Vs SNK 2 CD it was under 700 MB, but then again it is a small game!

A so maybe its possible to burn the " little" games back on an normal disc instead of an DVD disc....

Well. Time will tell how it al will go... I just dont want to buy an DVD burner...

The original XBOX won't allow you to read CDR's. Only DVDR's (- or + media) as well as CDRW. And other option is to use Alcahol 120% and a iso mounter

BTW, it's possible to use your XBOX drive to read the discs.

Test drive off road wide open is also under 700 mg (614 exact), and there is one drive that can read anything (cdr-rw, dvdr-rw) ...
the samsung drive

Perhaps you can just buy the DVDROM ? MAybe it would be a cheper solution instead of buying the entire Xbox.

IIRC I heard a rumor that the XboX DVD drive could be attatched to a PC running WinXP and still work

Well, maybe not so pointless. On several internet pages it's possible to get a 2nd XBOX DVD drive to fix your broken XBOX DVD drive. But since you can only read XBOX CD's on your p.c. using hacked firmware, isn't it better to not just do this (hacked firmware are still dangerous to use and can result in throwing away your "patched" DVD drive) using an original XBOX DVD?

Problem solved, it costs some what more but it's still cheaper then to use the hacked firmware (which seem only to work on DVD burners btw) and *hope* it works ok and doesn't fry your DVD

But, I have an original XBOX and damned I will to take the XBOX DVD DRIVE out! My XBOX is my pet :P

I looked around and getting DVD stuff from XBox is both rare and expensive. Gameconsolerepair.com is sold out of their about $90 replacement kit. On the other hand, you can buy a new Samsung SD-616T DVD-ROM for about $45, probably less if it shows up on eBay. Check out this page to see how to mod it so that it'll read XBox DVD-ROMs:

There are probably other DVD-ROMs you can use too. It seems like a safer bet to buy a new DVD-ROM and thrash it than to go after an XBox one.

one on one (or four player) fighters are really really small...while thing slike halo and adventures are like MAJOR big ass...mainly because theres the graphics for fighters and levels...and rules on how they move compared to many levels, many graphics on characters weapons and many many more possiblities

does anyone know if the 40x16x20x philips dvd and cdrw combo drive has hacked firmware available to be able to read all the xbox dvds data? im pretty sure its a 16x dvd rom i know its a 48 or 40x cd rom and definately a 20x cdrw. its white mostly with some grey.

i got the firmware for it its a 20x10x40x and its a 12x or 16x dvd rom got that info from the site and my device manager. anyways the firmware i got for it made it have rpc1 instead of rpc2 so can it read xbox games now like the stuff it hides if your firmware aint hacked.

ok.. reading all posts about reading xbox dvds have made me confused. Could someone clearify this:

As I understand it a dvd-drive that's region-free could read xbox dvds, correct? Or do you have to have a special firmware that makes the dvd-drive able to read dvds from the inside out? And is there only some brands that can actually handle this (and will you still be able to read regular pc-dvds)?
Will the emu support reading xbox dvds in a regionfree drive?

Would be nice if someone could explaine this to me, or direct me to somewhere.

as far as i know it being region free has nothing to do with reading a xbox dvd otherwise a xbox us console could read imports with mod chips. u need hacked firmware to read it properly. i updated mine from the site where everyone gets their firmware upgrades but i dunno if my firmware i upgraded with was hacked. all i know is i had rpc2 and then had rpc1 after upgrading. i dont know what rpc1 is but if in any case you cant read pc dvds and only xbox dvds u can downgrade your firmware back to what u had to read pc ones. u can upgrade and downgrade as much as u want. hope i was of some help even tho i have a lot of ?'s. Also I know one of the xboxs uses a philips drive so my philips cdrwdvd2010 should work i have firmware 1.3.0 rpc1 caustik. so do u think it will read my xbox games now so i can make gdf isos
