X-Marbles is now completely playable. High scores are even saved correctly in %CxbxDir%\TDATA\[GameId]\.

Thanks go to TerrorShocked for

a) Setting up the official Cxbx forum for me.
b) Downloading tons of homebrew demos to test, finding X-Marbles was *very* close to playable.

Also, thanks to kingofc for his progress. As you can see from the screenshots he's posted, he has made alot of progress with meshes and renderstates. Very impressive stuff

I will do a release tonight, i'm sure some other people would like to see this in action. If you are interested in beta testing, we'll do this unofficially for now. Just send me an email with KrnlDebug.txt logs that you think are valuable. As retail games make progress, I will set up a system for beta testers.

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

Where can we get some homebrows and demos (if they are legal of course) to test CXBX with ?

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

I can't believe how much ground the emu scene has covered over the past few hours. First PCSX2 emulating the BIOS near perfectly and now this ...

You can get demos from #xbins on efnet. You basically walk in the channel, request a password, then ftp to distribution.xbins.org.

The pcsx2 progress is very impressive, it is really great to see the next-gen emu scene thriving.

Would any kernal logs of retail games seem of value?

EDIT: Just figured, "not much." Considering not alot of things are implemented yet. . . Crazy Taxi 3 requires 'KeSetTimer'?

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

Quake2x also said it needed KSetTimer... I would assume it uses a version of the XDK which is not yet supported by CXBX.

I think I speak for everyone (okay, I at least speak for myself) in asking if anyone knows the approximate speeds these demos run at on a real XBox... also, it'd be nice to know the specs of the computer(s) running the demos, as well.

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

On the xbox demos run really fast. The benchmark demo (a demo which creates much vertex data and shows it in rendering, then tellling how much it was) runs on the xbox with ca. 100fps and on a machnine with a 1.4G AMD Athlon with a GF2 card it runs in HAL mode with ca. 16 fps and in REF mode with ca. 4 fps. Some demos like the PointSprite demo run in REF mode faster.

Other demos which use quad rendering and linear textures (so xbox extensions have to be emulated) run too slow, but at the moment there is no other possibility to speed them up except to use a better machine with a GF4 card.

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

I had to format, and I lost the beta I had on my mahine. However, emulators actually loaded up and showed text without crashing (They hung up, but I guess this is an advancement) Some emulators that did this without crashing were Bochs, DGEN, FCEUltra, and a few others..... From the demos I have tested it seems that the better video card you have, the better the speed. I tried some on my old Athlon 600mhz with Radeon 7500 an got around 20 FPS.... I then tried it on my Athlin 1.6ghz w/ Radeon 9600 Pro and gor around 140FPS (Go Figure)

Hm... thanks. Right now I'm kinda interested to see how little CPU you can get away with having while having the requisite video card in place (GF4 Ti or better, of course.. something that fulfills XGPU class requirements). Of course it'd make sense that the XBox's GPU could beat a GF2 pretty badly, I'm just curious as to how much of a bite in performance the wrapper overhead is taking right now

I imagine in the future you WILL need at least a GF3 level card to really emulate the XBox in any detail. Are you interested in getting one? Maybe we can start a donation or something ^^

If I ever get to getting my Radeon 9800 Pro, I would be glad to make a donation of my 9500 Pro(with hacked flashed firmware and all, AKA you can overclock it to 9700 Pro speeds ).

Re: Pre-Release Screenshots

These arent demos i think . its either hardware tests apps or something similer , but its built with Microsoft's XDK .. AFAIK meaning only developers are allowed to keep `em around .
