Re: i dun undersdtand dis :(
In Case you're still confused , XBE files are basiclly your games . they ARE on the game cds but cannot be read by normal PC DVD-ROM drives unless you have hacked their firmwire . The other way is to dump the game files via a modded XBOX Console

Re: i dun undersdtand dis :(
maybe if you didnt talk like a retard people would take you seriously .. however .. by talking like a total retard you prove you dont have the mental capacity to understand the concepts involved .. hence people will be less willing to help ..

Re: i dun undersdtand dis :(
The hacked firmware is not that bad to talk about..... I just removed it from the sticky. There is not however one universal firmware that will work on all drives. It is drive specific. Try searching on google for it.... google is good for tons of things.

Re: i dun undersdtand dis :(
well, dont pick on people is one thing. Secondly its legal to talk about something you own because its legal to copy anything you own but you cannot distribute it to someone else. So copying or dumping a game to your hard drive is not illegal because its incase for backup or just to try an emulator. You can play on a emulator with legal games which is LEGAL too
if im wrong let me know :P

Damn, made a huge post.... and *poff* it just went away.
Here's the short version: You do not own the intellectual property *the code itself*, thus you do have the right to use it, but you only own the plastic it's on. This means you don't have the right to make a backup. However this differs between countrys. But since you may not use an illegal device for backup anywhere or break a copyprotection, there's virtually no way to make a backup legaly *copyprotection stops you from making a backup that you have the right to do, since you break the law if you crack it :P* Firmware is legal if it's made from scratch, hacked firmware is not... In some countrys you don't have the right to make those mods though. Well, I think this emu will help sell xbox games, I for one want to play the games but not buy another "pc". Emulators are legal if no copyrighted materials where used in the making. But since you can't make a backup in a legal way, even if you have the right to (read: roms) there is "no point" in an emu. Emulators that uses dvd/cd are legal if they don't use a dumped bios. Or rather, the emu is legal but dumping the bios is not. You own the machine not the code in it. *but let's face it, who cares *Remember that microsoft do lose money in xbox sales, but they also use the sales numbers as arguments for developers and such *see, we own this much of the market* Which really was my whole point in this post. It is a jungel out there when it comes to laws, and one thing can be legal in your country and not for someone else. Emulation in itself is legal, just look back in time and think about the history of the PC *IBM compatible ring a bell?*. BUT microsoft is one bigass company whit ****loads of money and they can bury anyone in legal-crap. So just because you're right doesn't mean you're safe :P |

Actually this is the case in Sweden, but I'm quite sure it goes for other countrys aswell :P.
The problem is that new stuff appears on computers so fast that the law can't keep up. Another example of this is that in Sweden it's legal to download mp3's, but not sharing them though .This will however change Jan 1st 2004 .But asking what's legal in your part of the world on the internet is no good anyhow. The difference in laws are bigger than you think. Actually the music-industry use this quite a lot. If you're a band signing a contract, make sure under which countrys law you sign under. You could sign an american contract for a german label in denmark. And when it comes down to copyright/breaking the contract *and so on..* it can make a HUGE difference. (Sorry not emu related, just a fun sidenote )

Well, in Denmark you may legally reverse engineer any program, as long as it stays private, as in - you may not redistribute your findings or results.
You may also legally make a copy of anything original. Even games or cds borrowed from a friend/library/etc. You may NOT make a copy of a copy, however. If you cannot copy something, due to protections, look to the first bit about reverse engineering. Basically, you may do whatever it takes to copy it. So.. rom dumping is very much legal, here
