Difference between win 2K and win XP
Hi all,
I am quite new with Chankast, but from what I've read, most of you are able to run games pretty smoothly. So I was wondering if it has anything to do with my operating system. I am a big fan of soul calibur, and I read that the game is running very fast on slower machine than mine. So here is my question: Does win XP makes Chankast faster than 2K ? FYI, I'm running Soul Calibur @ 30 fps max. But during the replay of the death of the character, it goes to 60 fps. The version I have is the NTSC one, I don't know if it has anything to do with my problem. Maybe I've missed something in the setting, or maybe it's just tough luck. Anyway, I'd like to know if you have any clues about how I could run it faster. Cheers Dazu P.S.: chankast rules

WinXP has some extra eye candy, theoreticaly some new security features, and some fixes for playing games. It wouldn't make that much difference.

Hey thanks for the answers,
I agree that the most important thing is CPU speed, but how can the speed vary that much between two similar machines. I try to disable as much background programs as possible (antivirus and stuff), but I had no significant improvement. What is funny (and weird) is that I get the same speed (circa 30 fps) when I play in 640*480 or 1024*768... The only duel that goes at full speed is the one against Inferno (pretty cool, considering the opponent ^_^) I'm gonna try other stuff, but I really don't see what I can improve... The only option I have left is overclocking... But I'm not sure that it will be worth it, since my motherboard is not very keen on o/c... Well if anyone of you has a brilliant idea, it is more than welcome Cheers

Well it's weird, because ingame, the fps drops from 50 to 30... I have o/c my machine to 2800+ (circa 2.1 ghz) and it is a bit better. I was able to play a complete arcade mode over 45 fps. So I thought "wohoo finally !!!!" but during my second arcade mode, it was around 35... I don't understand. I'll try to make a profile for the emul with the ATI drivers. Maybe it'll help.

I already tried turning off all unnecessary programs. And of course I'm using an iso. I'll try to defrag to see if I got any improvement. That's strange anyway, because all the other games I'm playing (not emulation ones though) are running really sweet on my machine. Well it's not like it's unplayable, it's just frustrating to see many people getting 60 fps when they have the same kind of machine. Well, I'll live with it... until this weekend
I'm gonna make the f****** thing to work O_o

Same here Dazu.
I'm on 2k running @ Athlon XP 2600+ no o/c with a "PowerColor 9600Pro 256 EZ" and every game (Rez, SFIII3rd, DOA2LE -low fps-, Ikaruga) runs as silk BUT Soul Calibur. All is perfect but speed in fights, going at 3x/30 fps.Let's keep our hopes in next CHANKA release

"From the Chankast manual"
You'll need a CPU supporting the Intel SSE Instructions (P3, P4 or an AMD XP CPU) with at least 1.6 Ghz. Memory wise, you should at least have 256 MB of RAM in your system. As for the OS, you'll need Windows XP or 2003 (the emu will NOT work under Windows 9x or ME, 2000 may boot certain ISOs but we won't go into detail on this now!) together with DirectX 9.0b and a graphic card supporting it either from Nvidia or ATI together with their latest drivers. The underlined part is something you 2k users should pay attention too. As the author mentioned, there seems to be less compatability with that OS and less. XP all the way.

Yes I noticed it, but I won't change my OS for an emulator... I might do a dual boot though, just to check the difference.
