Error you cpu doesnt support SSE

Never Mind i found the answer. For everyone else with this error. Your cpu has to be a P3 or a P4 or a XP AMD. TBirds wont work. :-/

SSE are extended instructions for the x86 architecture (386, Pentium, Athlon, etc ...) created by Intel to speed up high-calculation programs. I haven't used Chankast, but likely it was compiled to run on SSE only CPUs. Those would be Athlon XP (though not older athlons), Pentium III, and newer.

It means you need a CPU that has SSE support, and yes Chankast requires SSE support. What kind of processer do you have?

I also get that message about sse, but I have a thoroughbred athlon xp 2400+. I assume it must be some kind of bug, cos my cpu definitely supports sse instructions. Just have to wait for the next release i suppose.

Probably your motherboard. Check for an option to enable/disable SSE in your bios. If not, google it.

just download wcpuid and it will let you know if SSE is enabled or not .. http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002.../download.html

If it isn't do like cooliscool said and enable it .. if there is no option to enable it then you will most likely need to flash a new bios. Do some research on your mobo to see if it is a known issue and find a fix.

The Coppermine & Tualatin Celeron's have SSE as well, in case anyone was wondering.

Angry

Thanks for the pointers, it appears my mainboard doesn't support any SSE instructions and I can fix it with a bios flash. I won't do it til i get the pennies together for a new one though, cos i only ever tried to flash a bios once and it went horribly wrong. :cuss2:

Plus I don't have a floppy drive so it might be difficult anyway.

Oh well, nevermind eh.

yeah my a: drive is all messed up .. so the last time I flashed my bios I burned the bios rom and utility onto a disc .. then used my old Win98 CD to boot into dos with CD support .. took out the Win98 CD then put in the burned CD and flashed the bios.

Pain in the ass but it worked

Heh.. it's on you, but if you're sure it's the right mobo, the chance of your mobo being screwed is VERY low. Not to mention that with SSE, your framerates in games that support it would probably be a bit higher, and you could use Chankast.

It's not a motherboard that supports SSE, it's your CPU and sure as hell a flash won't fix it; you can't flash a CPU (yet).

Err, yes, although SSE is a CPU feature, your motherboard does determine whether it's enabled or not. His AthlonXP "sure as hell" supports SSE.

Ive never heard of a setting to turn SSE on or off, its just if your chip supports it or not.

to be blunt but maybe a little harsh, the Tbird would be too slow to run chankast, even if it did work youd probably have < 10fps and would really destroy the gaming experience, you should go out and buy at least an athlon XP, the ones below the 2000+ chip are pretty damn cheap these days, costing about £50GBP ($70USD or $150CAD)

*cooliscool rips hair out

It's a cpu feature, we all know that, but the motherboard has to specify whether or not to use it.. he probably has an older motherboard which was made before the AthlonXP, so SSE support was unknown. When did he say he had a T-Bird? He has a Thoroughbred AthlonXP 2400+, which DOES support SSE.
