Intro
The CoD series has always been a well received one, and the latest installment has lived up the hype. Like past CoD games, it builds onto the last game, working out the bad and putting in new concepts and ideas that make it better. Although the CoD games have always been relatively short, the other great parts of it make up for it.
System Tested On
Played on a PS3 on a non-HD TV with composite cables.
Gameplay
The gameplay was a bit of a learning curve for me, I've always played FPS with a mouse and keyboard, so using a gamepad was a challenge :p. However, once I settled in, the fun really began then.
All of the level designs were fantastically done. Even on just a normal TV, everything was visually stunning. The water, the grass, the sky was all so well done I took a few seconds just looking at each one :p.
The weapon choices isn't too big or too small. And like most FPS games, take down a guy and take his guns if you weren't satisfied with yours (I always tried to find a shotgun :thumb:). Take down that tank you say Captain? Hmmm, should I use the C4 or the rocket launcher?...Choices choices :D.
In one point in the game, real dynamics came into play. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say it involves the wind speed, distance and the Coriolis effect ;). Google that if you didn't take Physics :).
The game engine was seemless. When a level was loading, it would entertain you with some eye candy, like satellite views of you mission area or 3D images of your objectives etc... Also, failing a mission or dying would result you restarting from your last save point (automatically does saving for you when you reach/complete certain objectives) and it loads relatively fast.
It wasn't all just point and shoot. You had to play smart to keep going. At one point, being a sniper...you do what snipers do, take down the bad guys and stay hidden. It's things like that really kept me wanting to play more and more.
Score - 9/10
Sound
Sound was great. Can't really say much, the sound and music delievered. When you were in sticky situations, heart pumping music would start playing. When you were in the woods in a stealth situation, eerie yet compelling music would play. Sound from the weapons, explosions and surrondings was well done, hearing booms and bangs with the tink tink tink of a grenade falling at your feet makes for some mind blowing fun :p.
The voice acting itself was also very well done. No cringing at horrid voice acting here.
10/10
Graphics
What can I say? On the PS3, it was visually stunning. The models for the characters were realistic. Their motions, their expressions were life like. Weapon models were also great. As were the vehicle models.
The lighting was spectacular. Whether in the dark, light, dusk or dawn, lighting was perfectly done. The environment graphics were also stunning. Words and pictures can only describe so much...you'll have to play it to appreciate the graphics for this game.
10/10
Replay Value
I've only played split screen with my brother since I have yet to figure out how to connect my PS3 online . But from what I've heard from many people, only one word describes the online multiplayer.
Intense.
Finishing the campaign on normal should take a day to two to complete. After finishing the game once, you unlock cheats and the Arcade mode. To access the cheats however, you must complete certain objectives during the game to unlock them, so there is a bit of a drive to replay the game (also, wait until the credits end to enjoy a bonus level).
7/10
Overall
Is it worth the money to buy it? IMO, hell yeah. It has everything you can ask for a FPS game. Great graphics, sound etc... If you've enjoyed the past CoD games, this one is a must buy for you. If you enjoy other FPS games, then this is a definite try.
Favorite part in the game? Shooting guys down when they deployed off a helicopter and watching them fall 30 feet :thumb:.
