Need help with mouse and keybaord

Since a lot of you's are very good when it comes to pc's im asking you's a question. I have a weird problem with my mouse and keyboard. First the mouse. When I turn on my pc it doesnt even know it's there... but when i restart it finds it. Second the keyboard. It's a ZBoard and for some reason just doesn't want to be used until the OS fully boots. Im using Windows XP SP2. Don't know if you need this or not but its an AMD XP1800+ and I think an NF7 motherboard.

well, whats the problem with the mouse if it detects it after you reboot?
do you have a reason to use the keyboard during the boot?

Well when i turn on my computer in the morning or after school i usually get something to eat or go to the bathroom and when i come back i expect to be able to use it. But can't because the mouse doesn't work so i have to reboot a 2nd time. And for the keyboard i set up a dual boot of XP and Linux. And i have to have to get my other keyboard to choose Linux because i need to use arrow keys to select which OS to use.

question: are they USB or PS/2 connectors for the mouse and keyboard?

For the keyboard I installed the driver and updates and stuff, but mouse didn't have anything. The keyboard is USB and the mouse is PS/2.

the keyboard is an easy fix.....just turn on USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Most motherboards have that feature disabled by default

As for the mouse....do you use a USB-to-PS/2 adapter?

Ok ill check the BIOS. As for mouse, I plug it into the slot it supposed to. I guess it's somewhat of a PS/2 connector. Should i get a PS/2 to USB connector? If it fixes the problem I don't mind buying it.

Edit: The BIOS change fixed my keyboard problem. Also maybe my mouse problem. Ill reply tomorow if it fixed my mouse problem too. Thanks.

Nope didn't fix it. Looks like im buying the adapter if it does what I want.

I had a similar problem once with a mouse... Only worked on every other bootup. Turns out there was a bug in the bios. Flashing an updated bios onto the motherboard fixed it. That said, if you haven't much computing experience I definitely wouldn't try that solution unless you're out of options.

I had the problem too, but with a wireless logitech desktop set.
I just switched the USB port on the adaptor, and it was working fine again.

I managed to do a dual boot first try from a tutorial and I knew nothing about them. Know of any tutorials on configuring bios's?
