This problem only occurs on Final Fantasy Origins? Have you made sure that you change the controller type to "SCPH-1010: Normal pad"? The game doesn't make use of the analog controller, and trying to use one gives the same result as if you try playing a non-analog game with the analog setting on with a real controller and console... the controls won't respond at all. So it has to be set to normal pad for the game to work.

or press the button you assigned as the analogue switcher...

@Squall-Leonhart: Actually, as much as we've been really wanting that feature, pSX does not have it. You have to manually go into the menu and change the controller type through the configuration menu.

Yeah, that would be a nice hotkey. Feature request! Maybe with a little status indication on the screen/status window to let you know which mode you're selecting, as opposed to the ePSXe 1.6.0 way where you don't even know if the button did anything.

Yeah, it's one of those features that has been requested many times for quite a while, and would be very simple to implement (due to the feature itself already being there in the form of the "Controller type" option), but pSX Author just doesn't seem to wanna implement. Maybe he's always lacking on free time and spends what very little he has trying to work on more important things. It wouldn't seem such a big thing, but if he only got, say... an hour or two a week, I guess small things would seem more a waste of time when there are bigger things to do.
The topic of hotkeys itself is the center of many of the most popular requests. Customizable mapping of the fast forward function, a toggle for analog/digital mode, customizable save/load state buttons, etc... all would be quite easy (compared to most other things), and yet never see the light of day. The analog/digital toggle, though, I almost consider essential. Nearly every time I use pSX, I long for the feature.

Yes, that's one of the things that annoys me the most about pSX, GM. It would be so useful, although, admittedly, it's not hard to change as it is.
Actually, hushypushy, if you've got the FPS Display enabled in ePSXe, it shows whether you've got an analog or digital controller enabled; it's the last but one indicator on the right and indicates D1 or A1 (or maybe another digit for multiple controllers, I guess) for digital or analog, respectively.

^ Wow, I never knew that. There are a lot of icons up there, I never figured out what they all do...

sorry for beeing absent so long but i forgot about this post, and yes youre right about the controller type issue, cos thats exactly what happend, i was useing an dualshock.
but i still dont know why one has to switch to the normal pad for games not supporting the dualshock, i mean the real playstation doesnt require such an action neither.
and epsxe doesnt need that too.

Try playing a digital only game (i.e. FF7) with your dual shock plugged in and the Analog mode on. None of the buttons will work--I know this from personal experience.
The only difference here is that the emulator keeps analog mode on all the time, whereas when you turn on the PS1, it usually doesn't turn the analog on, you have to press that yourself (some games are automatic, i.e. Ape Escape).

No, usljoo, ePSXe does need the controller to be set as digital for digital-only games, and so does a Playstation.
The difference is that you can do this by pressing a button on your DualShock controller on a Playstation, or by pressing the F5 key in ePSXe. In pSX, you have to open your configuration to change it, which is not so convenient - as several of us commented above. But none of these platforms support the use of analog sticks in digital-only games.
Most people use Ultima's pSX Frontend, which is an extremely useful accessory for pSX anyway, to start games with the controller configured appropriately.
Edit: you got there first, hushypushy! 8-)
