View Full Version : NeonDS 0.1.1 Released!

In the next two weeks I'll be busying moving my home to another city, I'll have no time working on this emulator. So, here I release a version with incomplete 3D display engine support. Although the 3D support is not complete yet, there are already some games playable.
I have updated the wiki for some of my testing results.

http://www.neonds.com/system/files/m64.PNG

Here is the list of updates in this version:

3D display engine (incomplete yet)
Replace D3D with OpenGL for display rendering
Support 2x display zooming
Fix some DMA bugs

NeonDS | NDS (Nintendo DS) emulator (http://www.neonds.com/en)

it's time to TEST :thumb::thumb:

Nice 3D now I can get busy aswell :)

It's looking good :thumb:

Ugh the inability of this emu to load different games after each other is making testing really annoying. I keep on having to close and then restart the emu and move everything back to where I want it.

Added a few games to the wiki.

I must say the 3D done on this is impressive, as is the speed (but that might change with the addition of sound emulation).

Wow sigmax, how long have you had this new version for? You seem to have done a ton of testing on it allready, or was that still from the previous version?

I can see you tested a lot. I myself have added some things to that Wiki now as I said (Asterix and Obleix XXL2 for example).
I just can't tell if most of those tests are still NeonDS 0.1.0 or if you already got NeonDS 0.1.1 a few days ago and have been testing it since.
By the way as for you two pretty much being the only testers, that's gonna change from now on ;)

Actually, 0.1.1 was out today. ;)

Castlevania POR is playable with nice speed and the characters's glitch and save works perfectly!

SCHUMI_4EVER
August 27th, 2007, 22:46
So I can retest all those games then and possibly change status of some of them? Or have those all already been tested on 0.1.1?

Yeah, the GUI needs to get a revamp, but it's not the GUI that matters, it's being able to play the game that matters. Even though it's not the best interface, you have to admit that it's pretty straightfoward. Open rom then run. Simple.

I hope Orz will make it so that you can run games one after the other without having to close the emulator. It gets tedious after a while having to close out the emulator everytime you want to change a game. Especially when testing out a whole bunch of games when new releases hit.

I just tested Naruto Shinobi and while it have graphical problems (for obvious reasons) the speed its a SOLID 50fps!! it moves sooo well. Way better than no$gba and the other emus! (speed wise) .The next version is going to kick some ass =D

All the DS emus (well not quite DeSmuME) are on the verge of where a new version offering some 3D improvemnts and/or performance improvements will mean some major kick-ass gaming.

Super Mario 64 DS is completely playable without sound, no sky and minor GFX glitches (which appear rarely).

But in some parts it runs TOO FAST! :O

SCHUMI_4EVER

Well then limit it to 60 FPS under the config menu.

And the limitations of a wiki are revealed...some lame gamer came in and changed some of the statuses of games cuz he's too much of a n00b to actually beat them.
Luckily Seto9008's revisions were reversible.
Seriously though some people have no life and are just a waste of air and space.

Please understand that if you use the wrong savetype and it will save but will lost the data and you wont have save in the game at all. Please make sure the save type is correct. :)

4kb EEPROM ==> Set it to EEPROM 0.5kbytes
64mbits EEPROM ==> Set it to EEPROM 8kbytes
512mbits EEPROM ==> Set it to EEPROM 64kbytes
2Mbit FLASH and 1024 FLASH ==> Set it to FLASH 256kbytes

Ugh I don't feel up to it at the moment rockman.

Besides I stick with my old theory, if you can't find the savetype yourself, then you probably can't use the emu propperly either :p

The savetypes are universal not NeonDS specific so it's not neccessary either in my opinion.

Maybe putting the link to sigmax's thread from no$gba section (as it's also not no$gba sepcific) onto the site might be an idea though, then people have all the tools to find the savetypes themselves.

Does anyone else think that the current "2x Screen Size" is TOO much?
I have 1280x768(widescreen FTW), and both screens won't just fit in my monitor.
How about a x1.5 Screen Size option for the next version? XD

That's because DS coordinates and openGL coordinates differ a bit. In fact, there's a lot more bugs from blindly implementing what no$gba documentation says :P

Widescreen fails...regular screen for the win. My screen res is 1280x1024 and it's fine.
The thing is though my performance goes out the window with 2x size, which was to be expected...well I was expecting half of my performance to be lost, but my loading went from 2 seconds and 80FPS, to loading of 30seconds and 5FPS so I ainst using that feature again anytime soon.

My screen res is 1400x1050, so I have no problems. I think it's good to have the 2x option in there even though it drops the FPS drastically when I use it. Hopefully speed will improve for that one day. It gets very difficult seeing everything on 1x on my res, so I usually have to lower my screen resolution to enlarge it but things get blurry when I do that.

Matis
September 2nd, 2007, 01:03
That's why I said to add a x1.5. That would not lower the FPS that much, and still give you that size increase which is very welcome.

SCHUMI_4EVER
September 2nd, 2007, 01:09
Well I will probably just set it to start in 640x480 compatibility mode once multiple loading is supported and sound. Big Screen and less performance loss. The Big floating debugger might cause issues at that res though...o well I will just wait and see.

0112 - Trace Memory (U) --- Playable
Pretty much perfect aside from a slight flashing now and then. Good Speed. The problem is... Franny's room.. Use the stamps on the book to finish the picture, you will need to press them somehow. '''Close the DS''' and you will have stamped the paper but didnt emulate it yet. So you can't go further unless you need to close the DS. :( (0.1.1)

I should note that the Wiki says that Sonic Rush(U) locks up in the title screen(that is, not even the menu). I got the game up to starting a stage. All you have to do is press Start and A repeatedly so that the whole intro is skipped. You can get to the menu, and even up to the start of the stage(the whole stage name, hell, even the top screen has the stage rendered and all. My guess is that the Sonic model uses 3D that is not implemented in this version, though. Can someone try this in the US version(should give the same results, but meh)?

Both of the above problems had been tested by me.
Sorry about Trace Memory, I am just not patient enough to play the same game over and over again to see how far I get. If it looks perfect to me after 10 minutes of gameplay I usually report it as fine. Anyways thanks for fixing it rockman.

Sonic however I will be sticking with my original report, after Sonic and whatever the female character is called flash accross the screen. I am left with the title screen on top and a blank white screen on the bottom, the game will then not accept any control input (I button-mashed all the buttons but nothing, and I clicked all over the screen) so I assume it's frozen.

Matis
September 2nd, 2007, 02:35
I'll resort to screens, then. As soon as you see the "Sega" and "Sonic Team" logos, start mashing Start and A.

SCHUMI_4EVER
September 2nd, 2007, 02:48
Hmmm well we are both right...

If I button mash as soon as I see the title I get as far as you.
However if I only do it once sonic and that female character have flashed across the screen then nothing get's accepted anymore.

Also how on earth is this emu running the game in Jap? if it's the american version? in other words only has one language? ....It's not the only game it did with either...

Matis
September 2nd, 2007, 03:13
Mine is the European version, which most likely has 5 or so languages. These can only be changed via Firmware, and since NeonDS doesn't allow that yet, the game is in Japanese. I assume the US version has English and Japanese as selectable languages, and since default is Japanese, that's what you're getting.

SCHUMI_4EVER
September 2nd, 2007, 03:17

Usually being the keyword. If you are using the (U) version of the game, and still getting Japanese language, then that means that the (U) version has both English AND Japanese, and NeonDS has Japanese set as default firmware.

Something similar happens with Sonic Battle(GBA), since it's US version had both English and Japanese.

Hey, don't call me DUMB.

Not very nice, and certainly not what you would call community-minded. .... to some people in politics you'd think that 'DUMB' was a four-letter word", jeez!

Nothing is wrong with that. I did and I got his answer just fine. He didn't say anything about just a bug or something like that. I think it's general questions too. :)

NeonDS developer emailed to my question about hinge/unfold emulating:

yes I know what it is and I also know how to emulate it. But now I
haven't worked on the emulator after the last release, because of lots of real
life matters to handle. I will start working on the emulator later. :)

yeah i know that its still incomplete but ive seen some videos posted in here and there speed is around 50-60 fps and seems that their using v0.1.1 but when i use the the later version its much faster than the latest, does it something to do with the computer spec?

post your pc spec:P

Matis
September 23rd, 2007, 06:31
It could also have something to do with the speed limiter. Check the debugger's options, and set it to "Limit 60 FPS".

Hey guys i got a problem with NeonDS just look the pic a got black screen or merge layer on the downscreen:(
Finally I think I figured out why this happens, as you are not the only one have this problem. NeonDS current implementation requires OpenGL version 1.4 or above, if your display driver is very old it may not have the proper OpenGL version support, in such case you'll get this overlapping problem. You can google the tool "OpenGL Extensions Viewer" to view your current display driver opengl support level. The best way to resolve this problem is to update your video card driver.

Uh, hi. I'd like to thank you for this emulator. All I really want out of a DS emulator is to play Super Robot Wars W without having to squint. And you delivered. The white space between screens doesn't really bother me, though it forces me to adjust my screen resolution (2x screen size is too small for 1024x768 due to said white space). Still, you've done a good job so far, and I salute you.

Hey orz, nice to see you here again. It means that you have at least not forgotten us.

Take your time, I personally know that moving can be quite hectic and that it takes a while for things to settle down again.

Besides if any future versions take a leap as big as the last version did, then it's well worth waiting for.

frame rate is 60-70.I don't know one thing how to use and can you use save states?I can only save in the game.

SCHUMI_4EVER

NeonDS does not even have a Save Sate option so it's obvious that you can't use them as there is nothing to use, so yes you can only do ingame saves.
