What else do I need to turn on here? I still dont get the blur effect on Metal Gear Solid. Is it on some certain parts? Does the blur effect happen everywhere? Any time? Cause I just change the setting and just run the game and nothing happens. I cant see the blur effect...

Do a search for a post to this effect (Metal Gear Solid blur or something like that) from fivefeet8. I know he's mentioned where to turn on the blur effect in some thread...

I searched and fivefeet8 only says "Blur effect baby~~~"
Hrm...I sent fivefeet8 a private message and his reply was to make these 2
| FrameBuffer Access | Read/Write |
| Off-Screen Drawing | Extra+FBR |
Like that.
And that doesnt make a difference. Any more help? :(

Well.. Blur effects aren't used all the time in the game.. There are a few times in the begginning of the game where the blur effects aren't shown correctly(looks like softwarish) I have told lewpy about it already.. But the rest of the game does the blurs correctly..

FF7 doesn't use blur effects.. FF8 uses a little of it with the Eden Summon Gardian force.. FF9 uses the most blur effects out of all the FF's on the psx.. Magic, Summons, all use some type of blur effect in FF9.. check this shot of FF9 with the blur effect..

It sorta depends on your hardware too.. Check my profile for my system specs.. Here are the settings I use for FF8 and 9.. I have 4xFSAA enabled on my voodoo5 5500.. :)

Lewpy

Nope, no T-Buffer effects :)
You can use the T-Buffer for FSAA, if you so desire :)

Hrm...how?

cairey
January 5th, 2002, 01:36
FSAA is part of the 3dfx T-buffer. 4x FSAA uses 4 sub-samples (RGSS) on both VSA-100 chips. As there is no Z-buffer, there will be no other cool T-buffer effects, like Motion Blur :(

When I try to run FF9 from the CDROM or an ISO, the program throws some 'init error' and crashes. It sometimes takes my computer down with it. These are my specs.

I need my FF!! plz help,

Lewpy
January 20th, 2002, 12:42
Firstly, update my plugin to v1.35.
Then, enable Experimental Flipping (needed for FF games).
Also, set OffScreen Drawing to [at most] EXTRA+FBR. Your computer is not really fast enough for OSD=FULL.
And lastly, wow, have you never needed to update your DirectX version?

I made the changes you said. My new configurations are in my old post above. Now when I choose Run CDROM, the program exits without a word, what is going on?!? Somebody help me.:(

You have to leave the "Banshee Code" disabled unless you have a Voodoo Banshee.

nope, same crash.
(I saw that the last message in the DOS box was "NTSC CDROM detected. I'll try an ISO)

I tried the ISO and something intersting happened. That window popped up that said ePSXe performed an illeagle operation, but then the screen went black. After a few seconds, the game started up. It worked wonderfully, even with OSD at full! but if I press <ESC>, I have to be very careful that the program doesn't crash.
Thanks guys!! :)

Just so you know, when I had a V5, I got the same illegal operation. It doesn't affect gameplay, as you can still play games whilst it's in the background.

And, make sure Emulate Mask Bit is enabled when playing something with blur effects, 'cause then it looks really crappy.

You aren't running some kind of 3D graphics card tweaking program (or similar) in the background?

Not that I know of. I do have a 3dfx 3d accelerator, but don't have its driver. the video is going through it anyway, though. could that screw it up?

That did it. Quality improved overall, and there's no more crash.

Lewpy: I have a 3dfx voodoo3 3000 and a 3dfx 3d accelerator. I have a cable running from the GFX card to the accelerator, and the monitor is plugged into that. I was under the impression that the accelerator would add memory to the GFX card, and it was free, so I took it. I don't have a driver for it, but my monitor is displaying normally.

Thanks all! :)

Hey ya Lewpy, I get the same error, actually and I'm running Win98SE with the latest 3dfx drivers from there site. The original drivers wouldn't let me work beyond 800x600. Helps to upgrade doesn't it? :)

Anyhow Ocassionally it doesn't happen, I think the GLIDE drivers might be the problem, but I'm not positive. Almost ALL games work except dragon warrior 7. I've noticed ocassional stuttering in the FPS but I believe that's entirely to do with the CDROM and XA's playing so not a big deal.

I've never seen such a nice looking screen for the PSX tell I put that old voodoo 3 2000 PCI in this computer! :)

If you want me to give you a detailed setup and a list of games this problem happens in I will. Save states too if you need them.

Meanwhile I should actually start working again on that GPU plugin I was working on (sigh tweaked it and now it crashes very happily ;)

Hey Lewpy! Is there a list of all the games that work really great with Motion blur? Like fivefeet8s screen shot of FF9. I know that the intro in Metal Gear Solid uses motion blur, but I dont know what other games. So, is there a list?
