Ok I've read every troubleshooting post for Xenogears I could find here but my issue wasn't listed, so here it goes.

Ok I am running espxe 1.52, petes open gl 1.76, eternal spu plugin 1.41, P.E. Op.S CDR 1.4. I have my original Xenogears disk and images I made of it. The game will start fine but every time I get to the first time you're in a gear and after the quick tutorial by the computer, it crashes. I've reformatted the cards, no luck. Tried the F7 trick, no luck.

I am using the settings Kane recommends. This is the only game so far that is giving me such a headache in the same part every single time.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Did you read the sticky at the top of the forum you posted in? (http://forums.ngemu.com/problems-games/65247-troubleshooting-faq-read-first-before-you-post.html) Especially the first basic steps, like trying a different emulator.

What are your computer specs?

Here are the specs of the system I am running it on.

P4 2.67 GHz
1 gig ram
sb live 5.1 (latest drivers)
fx 5500 agp 128 meg ram (latest drivers)
win xp sp2 (all critical updates)

Tried various gpu but still no go, now if I load a save further in the game the battles, be they gears or hand-to-hand, work no prob. It's just that very first battle in Lahan.

Does anyone have a save just after the first battle in Lahan? If so send it to my email please. dantivirus@yahoo.com

Did you try different emulators? For example, you can try pSX (http://psxemulator.gazaxian.com/)--it's very compatible and easy to set up (doesn't use plugins). You can transfer your saves to other emulators, so don't worry about trying as many as you need to.

Personally, I would recommend using PSXeven, so you don't have to use the F7 trick.

Well, found the issue. For some odd reason, it turned out to be the save file that was the issue. Found one just before you go back to lahan from Citan's and it played flawlessly. Very odd and I feel like an idiot for not figuring it out before. That loud thumping you hear is Stewie Griffin beating me upside my head and shouting 'idiot'. ;)
