After a long absence I've finally gotten around to releasing v1.12 ;) Changes in this release :
Fixed crash on startup with -f command line option
Fixed SPU bug that caused FF8 FMV audio to stop sometimes
Fixed bug that prevented some keys being mapped to controllers
Fixed bug where window size/position was reset when using fast forward
Added support for Alcohol 120% MDF/MDS images
Fake subcode in track gaps (required for TombRaider1)
Fixed Syphon Filter boot hang
Fixed infinite loop in Tekken3 and Deception3
Changed 384 mode to 364 which seems to be correct (based on TombRaider)
Fixed aspect ratio correction for 5:4

Don't count on it any time soon. I think I remember pSX Author saying he may put more features in pSX in the future after he's improved accuracy and compatiblity though. :)

Is it only I who noticed this SIGNIFICANT change ? pSX author forgot to add it in the readme text.
Oh yeah - I forgot to mention that in the readme. Another thing I forgot to mention is that I reduced the amount of memory pSX uses in Windows by about 15-20mb! (there was a once-only leak during startup which I had never noticed before).

Wow. That is a significant change that should be edited in the readme and changelogs.

Wow. That is a significant change that should be edited in the readme and changelogs.
Its not really that significant ;) - it used to use ~40mb (which is still nothing in PC terms) now it uses ~25mb!

Well, I have like 20 programs running in the background which I'm too lazy to close. Especially resource hogs like Photoshop that I keep running on the computer all day. Any difference is significant to me since I don't have a high-end machine. :p Just closing out a few IM programs like MSN (which usually takes uses around 15 mb each) makes a big difference to me. As soon as I close them, I notice that my emulators skip less and run more smoothly. Namely PJ64 and pSX.
Anyways, it's still great news. pSX's memory usage has just cut down by almost half of what it was. :)

Use the -r command line switch to fix this problem. ie. run pSX like this :
psxfin -r
This problem also happens on a real PS2! - its really a bug in the game.

Ive just downloaded it and its very nice. I do prefer epsxe as it had configurable plugins so i can set the resolution to high and add shading effects to make the games look stunning. Unfortunataly running toca world touring cars for example on this emu makes it look like im watching the game through a tea strainer! Its great and has no gfx glitches like epsxe does. Is thier a way to add plugins/gfx enhancement? if so this would be the BEST emu. Thanks for your advice

This is a common point in emus that rely on software rendering for the graphic part: near-inexistent graphic glitches. Once it's fine enough, a littleacceleration/optimization wouldnt be out of place.

I for the one dareday this is ONE OF the best emus out there I've ever seen but unfortunately there are some deficiencies which stops it from being PERFECT.
let's see what those things are, ok ?;)
The Good:
1. I alway wished to have an emulator exactly like the console itself. for example executing BIOS at first and then running the game.
well, ... I think my wish has been granted.:innocent:
2.It takes advantage of .CDZ format for compressing the ISOs.. This utility compresses the ISOs 20/mb more than the format ePSXe does.
3. You cannot imagine how fast this emu runs the games rather than ePSXe(of course we souldn't forget that ePSXe uses plugings which slows everythings down and u need a good PC).
4. You can easily maximize and minimize in the window mode and I couldn't find any emu to utilize this properties. maximizing and minimizing is a cool thing coze there are sometimes I wanna test some games and I have to push Alt+ Enter to run in fullscreen. now I don't have to do that.
5. You can simply run any image from the "File" menu. ePSXe only supports "ISO,.ZIP & EXE" from the "File" menu.
6. sound is PERFECT.
The bad:
1. As all you might've guessed there's no any Graphical optimization. unfortunately THAT IS WHY I DON'T USE THIS EMULATOR AT ALL. what a pitty.:( If it could use a plugin only and only for this part.........
2. Isn't there just a way to disable Console Debugger ? It's getting on my nerves.:eyespin:
3. "Quicksave" & "Debug" is not located in a right place. It makes the appearance of the emu ugly. other thins are nicely ordered.
4. When u press ESCAPE button, it vanishes into thin air. for this part ONLY PSXeven get the most out of it because u still can configure the plugins while running the game. about ePSXe, pressing Esc buttion, goes to the window mode and you cannot do anything else but continuing the game. I think pressing Esc for ePSXe is meant for getting out of the game for checking your Windows or something.
-------------------------------
Is there anything else?
by the way, thank YOU dear author for creating such a masterpiece. really.:)

for some reason i find them 2 completely contradictory. You want it exactly like the console, but you want graphics options to beautify it.
well, pSX is EXACTLY Like the console, the console wouldnt have them options so nor does the emulator, which is what pSX was going for ;)
The whole point in this emu is the full Playstation 1 experience, not something to take and improve it.

well, I have to confess that you're right. ;)
but it's ONE sentence against ONE sentence. so it means "contradictory" not "2 contradictory", right ?:)

1. As all you might've guessed there's no any Graphical optimization. unfortunately THAT IS WHY I DON'T USE THIS EMULATOR AT ALL. what a pitty.:( If it could use a plugin only and only for this part.........Enhancement isn't the point of the emulator in the first place. And yah, I was thinking the same thing as refraction (contradictory). refraction was referring to both items contradicting each other, not the idea they're describing ;)
2. Isn't there just a way to disable Console Debugger ? It's getting on my nerves.:eyespin:Yes, pSX Frontend (http://psxemulator.proboards54.com/index.cgi?board=news&action=display&thread=1156715263).
3. "Quicksave" & "Debug" is not located in a right place. It makes the appearance of the emu ugly. other thins are nicely ordered. Not that it really matters if you're playing a game.
You didn't spend much time in the configuration dialog, I presume? There is an option to control what Esc does in the Miscellaneous tab. Granted, you only get the choice between exiting entirely, and exiting full screen mode, but you're not really being specific about what you expect it to do in the first place. If you want it to pause, simply switching window focus to something else (even clicking the taskbar) pauses the emulator by default, and you can change any of the options.

Oopse. that's right.
EDIT: BTW, Thanks for Frontend.
2 Qs:
1. why PSX runs or uses PS2 bios (scph39001) ? how is it possible ?
2. what is PPF in "Base" section and what does "Profiles" do ?

@nemesis_stars:
1. Because the emulator also has a PS2 emulation component to it (accessible via the -2 switch) that pSX Author's actively working on. It's nearing a playable state for at least one game he's testing it on. At the moment, you should be able to boot the PS2 BIOS, but it's extremely slow (pretty pointless to try, and nothing interesting really).
2. PPF allows you to use PPF patches on-the-fly without actually needing to patch the CD image. Profiles allow you to save configurations for pSX. It's useful sometimes for games that maybe run better with one BIOS over another, or games that you need a certain command line switch for (-r usually), and you can't be bothered to remember these things.

1. really ? so what is that ONE game ?
by the way, I think running ps2 BIOS in this emu is worth a try coze it displays some features that PCSX2 can't do. it's PS2 logo.
2. thanks.

hm maybe i'll give it a try,
what was the command again to enable the ps2 mode ?
hm it goes into PSX mode when i try to run it with "./pSX -Cr" :/
and by trying "./pSX -2" i get:
