View Full Version : Is there anyway to port PSP games to a PS2(or 3) disc?

I was just wondering because there are 2 or 3 PSP games I like but I'm not a fan of handheld consoles.

I know Sony has ported some of the GTA games over to PS2 and I was wondering if it is possible(for me) to do it.

no source code = no port

right.
wait for a PSP emulator or buy a PSP and use remotejoy (http://forums.ngemu.com/handheld-screenshots/89488-remotejoy-my-psp-monitor.html) to play those games with keyboard or gamepad on your PC screen / TV ;)

Would any of the PS2 Mod Chips allow these games to be played somehow?

When the emulator comes out, will there be a way to use it with a PS2/3?

No.
PSP has a complete different System as the PS2
PSP= MIPS R4000
PS2= MIPS R5900

PS2 is too weak, but PS3 can be possible over linux.

cool, I'll wait for the emulator to come out before I buy the PS3, how would I run the game though?

isos. you have to own a PSP to dump the games ;)

No mod chip discussion here. One other thing to note, there's more to porting a PSP game to the PS2 than simply throwing the files onto a UMD. PS2's main executable is ELF files, while the PSP uses eboots. Eboot is an encrypted executable only unlockable while running on the PSP (it gets the keys from the firmware). Also, if you look at the directory structures, you'll find they are quite different in standard layout.;)

No. You buy your games and play your own backups.;)

In other words, the point of emulation is to play the games that you already own on various devices, NOT to avoid paying money for hardware/software. That fact can be quite hard to stomach for a lot of people.

I want to buy the games, but I really dont want a close to 200$ PSP when Im trying to save up for a PS3 or 360.

Too bad, like hushy said, emus are for playing your own games, not ones you've pirated. Even if there was a decent working psp emu, you would still need a psp to dump the iso's of the games to play them.

Im not wanting to pirate the game. I want to buy the game, possibly rent a PSP or borrow one, then I can make the ISO.

Is that possible

I suppose that would be possible, you'll need a psp that can run homebrew apps though if you are serious about buying and dumping psp games. But bear in mind there aren't any proper psp emu's yet.

One thing to keep in mind: PSP emu's on PS3 are pretty far off still. If you really want to play PSP games, then buy a PSP.

whatever... fact is: there is no PSP emulator for the PS3, so i just wonder why this pointless thread is still open... :rolleyes:

I just wanted to find out what my options were

NexXxus

here some options:

1.) buy a PSP and the games you want to play.
2.) rent a PSP and the games you want to play.
3.) wait a few years till a psp emulator comes out wich is good and stable enough to play those games through...
