How to save/load pokemon D/P?

could someone please tell me how to save on polemon diamond.and then load it.

It doesn't seem to be possible. I can save in the Japanese version, but when I try the same thing in the North American version, a blue screen with an error comes up.

I can save in the US version. I didn't try the Japanese version though.
