A friend of mine changed the bits for the language in the file and it worked. Its now fulltime in German. HAs onyone a idea how to do that?

Tell him how to do it in step by step. I know about hex editor which I tried and it almost worked but unfortunately, no.

It's quite easy to do, if you know what you're doing, but it's quite pointless: if you were able to dump it once, you can change the settings and dump it again.

Yeah, you are right but not everyone know how to dump it once. They know where to find it through the google.com as their friends. It is not against the rules in here to discuss but against the rules where to find it because google.com is only way they will have to find it at their own. :)

I have my own firmware in english but it is not hurt to help them out how to edit it or anything if it is possibly rather than tell them where to find it, anyway. :)

And there is the point. What if somebody couldn`t dump it and has a version of the net. In this case is it understandable ,and please dont start now that it is illegal, to not dump it from its own NDS. Everyone knows that, but if somebody buys himself this Supercard and stuff to dump it. It becomes useless to dump the firmware because now they can play everything on the original NDS. :eyemove:

Useless? Not exactly.
I much prefer to play all games on my PC whenever I have the choice. Easy cheating, controlling the gamespeed, savestates (which sadly don't yet work for DS), being able to monitor IRC and email while playing, etc. Besides, it's bit of a hassle to plug in one of my consoles to my crappy old TV (with sound problems) than to run an emulator - or in this case, dig up my DS from under all the junk on my desk. ;)

As for the firmware - language might be changed by some hex-editing, but I prefer to have my own nickname and birth date set in the firmware. Admittedly, not many games actually refer to those, but still...

As you already know, if you got the firmware from the net, you can't get support here, as ngemu forbids talking about warez.

Damn it. I dont understand why you guys are so strange about that theme. Thats the way I see it. If you buy a NDS, you buy to the licences for the software on it. That means that you are allowed to do with this software what you want. If you now have no way to get the software out of there and ask a friend to give you a dump, there is no difference except that the file is not from the own NDS, but you still have the permission to have it because you have a NDS system.

well by renaming the NO$GBA.inp into firmware.bin (a file that NO$ emu makes after saving a game) this firmware was in eng, even though the firmware i used before saving was in french :D so u might wanna try it out...

Trust me - you need a proper firmware to make some games work correctly; they require it for touchscreen settings and other misc. things.

10x for confirming what i already knew, but wit the .inp file renamed my touchscreen works perfectly - this can be explaned as the .inp file has the data the original firmware i used had, but only with a different languge.

Open the no$gba.inp in some text editor. It has nothing to do with firmware; unless you think that firmware consists of a listing of your game-roms...

If you open it in text editor all you see is rows of HEX digits, and I am sure u dont compare the digits alone? If it didn't have the functionality of the original firmware then why does the touchscreen and the save game work? If you realy want to compare it in code then you need a HEX converter especialy for that type of an encription and i dont think you do.

EDIT: and dont worry i'm an IT student and know perfectly well what a firmware is...

That's bit unusual. When I open my no$gba.inp, all it contains is a file-listing. Plain ASCII. No idea why yours is different; are you sure that you didn't simply view no$gba.exe, or some other file instead?

As for the touchscreen: the recent versions added more touchscreen support, and for most part games no longer require firmware for it to work correctly. Delete that fake firmware.bin, and the touchscreen will work just as well. Saves? They work just fine without firmware, always have. In fact, some might work better without it. For example, Pokemon Pearl/Diamond (J) saves with Japanese firmware, but refuses to save with European one. I have no idea why, since DS is supposed to be region free; and I haven't heard of European importers complaining that they've been unable to get it work on their DS.

That is indeed true, at least for me. I'm unable to save in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl (J) with the French version of the firmware, however when I use my Chinese version of the firmware (in fact, it's called iQue instead of Nintendo DS in China), it allows me to save. Weird huh? Pretty sure it should be region free as well!

Hope that the english version of Pokemon DP that's coming out in 4 days would allow me to save with my Chinese firmware >.<

Well it only took me like 10mins.
Its not hard, you just have to download a hex editor, open the firmware.bin, and make a change to the right place.

just for one reason, you edited the file and didn't fixed the checksum, so you corrupted the firmware file. Not the mention that you need to decompress the file to change the name correctly inside the compressed area.

ps: no, you can't open the firmware in winrar/7zip ;p
