View Full Version : DDR2 big bonus over DDR?

After tweaking my system a bit, I've been trying to get DOA2 to run full speed with A-Sync off with no success, and found something interesting that's scared me. Seems I get more FPS gain by overclocking my mem just a few Mhz more than any CPU adjustments.

Are DDR1 users going to be in trouble to keep up with "intense" DC games?

Well, not really, as still processor speed is still the most important factor. If you have a processor that runs on 3.0Ghz (Or perhaps a PR Rating of 3000) then there should be no problems.

And like others said, even the cheapest dual core CPU can run nullDC perfectly. Even if nullDC doesn't support multi core yet.

They said that Nulldc uses multiple threads, which means its dual core ready.

Also overclocking your memory = overclocking your cpu (cpu speed is caluclated by multiplying your memory speed). ex. I have my memory overclocked from 200mhz to 220mhz, and in turn my cpu runs at 2,2ghz instead of 2ghz...

the difference is negligable in my opinion

Overclocker Cafe - DDR1 vs. DDR2 - What's it mean to you? (http://www.overclockercafe.com/Articles/DDR_vs_DDR2/pg_3.htm)

i've got a core 2 duo e4300, but i'm running it on an asrock 775dual mobo, which allows me to run my old ram.... ddr1 333 :)

Yup, tomshardware did some research on it as well and in the most taxing game of the moment, FEAR, it made only 1fps difference.

Well, I'm running at 2.95 (268x11) X2 Dual Core, and with async off DOA2 still runs under 60fps in battles, but I swore I saw someone have over 100fps. Odd.

And the FPS increase/decrease was from playing with my ram divider

Yeah , nullDC realy likes to have a lot ram bandwidth...Especialy to get 2x fullspeed (to get doa2 @ 60 fps). That also needs cpu power (when not limited by ram) , and it will like to have a second core , as it will make possible to render the gfx w/o interrupting the emulation :).
Oh , and doa2 is fixed on (unreleased) beta 2 =) Beta 2 teaser (http://emudev.com/drkIIRazi/nullDC_v1_beta2.JPG) (yes , i coudn't resist posting the pic)

Fantastic stuff, thanks for the doa2 update. Look forward to getting stuck into that one ;)
