View Full Version : Tennis 2K2 (Virtua Tennis 2) falls into bootloop.

I made a full backup from my LEGIT copy of Tennis 2K2. I have a lot of experience in doing this, this I can't imagine doing anything wrong. I used the serial cable method with teraterm. My GDI contains the following code:
3
1 0 4 2048 track01.iso 0
2 450 0 2352 track02.raw 0
3 45000 4 2048 track03.iso 0
That is all correct. track02.raw does start at 450, and like 99% of all CDDA-less games, track03.iso does begin at 45000. There appears to be no damage done to track03.iso. The first 16 sectors of it, which contain the IP.BIN header information, are fully intact. And yes I am using the correct BIOS.
So the problem is, when loading the GDI, everything starts up like normal, and after the swirl it goes to the BIOS menu for half a second and automatically loads the game, and then 2 seconds later it's back at the BIOS, repeating this forever.
The error seems to occur near the center of what you see here in this log:

So is the emu at fault here?

A GD-ROM contains at least 4 tracks. You rip misses the 4th track. That's the issue.

:rotflmao:
Not true at all. I have many other 3-track rips here which work fine. There is no 4th track.

Hmm... You're right. Virtua Tennis has no CDDA and has only 3 tracks. Seems like an emulator issue after all. :p

Well, that's a shame. I guess I'll just hold onto this. The good news is the dump 7zips down to 130MB! Real easy to store until NullDC supports it. I'm making a dump of Jet Grind Radio right now. Can't wait to test it.

To say the truth at first I thought that this was a rip of the high density area only and that kinda confused my words. The funniest part is that a GD-ROM does not contain 4 tracks at any case. It'll be either 3 for stuff with no CDDA or 5 (or more) for stuff with CDDA but never 4. Damn, that was definitely, by all means, an error. xD

Actually, wrong again. There's a few GD-ROMs with 4 tracks, 3-4 being data tracks. I've seen one a long while ago, and my friend, off the top of his head, said Virtual Fighter History as an example. He's got much more ripping experience than myself.

Really? Never knew about that oO
But what is the need of the different tracks in that case? I mean, there is nothing that blocks the data from being placed at the last sectors of the disc.

Ask the developers next time you get the chance. :P
Anyways, this might NOT be a flaw in the emu after all. I'm going to try re-ripping to confirm. Be back later.

So true :p
I'm not the type who believes that everything he says is right, nor the one who believes that everything he receives is right either. I just don't try to avoid stating my mistake when I'm wrong, as long as there is a way to verify it.
The fact that I P0wn3d j00 in the past doesn't change though. Now go read the readME n00b (omgwtf hihihi!!!1111!) :p

chanka is now past. :p
P0wn3d again Mire!!!111 Teh chanka lives with nullDC! Just go to the plugin configuration and try changing the null video and audio plugins that are selected by default. You'll find the chankast (omgwtfpowned) plugins there.
Next time consult the readME please. (Tss tss, n00bs...)

Yeah, but I still have moderation powers that I can abuse against you. For example, starting deleting your posts can settle that... right? :p

I have no idea what just happened, but mod abuse is not cool, regardless. I'm a mod of forums and I don't do that. :-\
But anyways, I found a lot of evidence that TeraTerm had a hiccup in about 20MB from the end of track03.iso, and ended early. A surface scan of the iso found no problems, but an individual file scan found that the last 5 files on the sorted LBA list were damaged (or in this case, NOT THERE). This includes 1ST_READ.BIN. So the emu is not at fault. TeraTerm is. I will re-rip it again tonight and maybe I'll have better luck.

YAY! I p0wnz3d j00!!!1111!...
.....
.......
..... ........ Now what? oO
EDIT: At Mozgus: Be aware that the ending sector for the US version of the game (as on all the GD-ROMs I know of) is (LBA) 549300 (549150 if we exclude the 150 sectors of "silence" the track should have). ISOBuster is one of the easiest ways to check the image for unreadable files (as long as you create a toc of the 2nd session adding a pregap of 10 minutes to the 3rd (1st of the second session) track.

Very aware of all that, thank you.
I re-ripped it but got the same result. Looks like this game just isn't rippable without the BBA method.
