Hi guys.
I just downloaded PCSX2 for curiosity but i DIDN'T read the f.a.q before run it :\
I ran the VM version and when it asked me to log off the system for that allocation memory thing i got a little scared.
The emulator works fine, but i have two questions:
1)How this allocation memory thing affects the system? it only allocate more memory for pcsx2.exe application or affects other application?
2)How can i REMOVE the allocation for pcsx2? To bring back the system in a state that if i run the VM version it will ask me to log off the system and allocate memory again
I'm just a bit paranoid as you can see, but please tell me. I want to bring back anything as before i ran the vm version of pcsx2.
Thanks!

1) Yes it can effect other application but in a good way, it is giving you virtual memory. No harm can come from it
2) Are you using XP Pro or Home ?

Yes I am sure, Read up about it on wikipedia.
Heres a link to an article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_memory)
How to enable / disable
From your control panel open Administrative Tools, then open Local Security Policy, open the local policies tree, then select user rights assignment. Then from the right form double click on lock pages in memory. Click on your username then click the remove button.

If you are really worried about data security, you should acquire a hard disk backup solution not only for PCSX2, but in general.
Try e.g. here betanews (http://fileforum.betanews.com/search?search=hard+disk+backup&os%5B%5D=4&os%5B%5D=6&os%5B%5D=5&os%5B%5D=7&os%5B%5D=2&os%5B%5D=3)
and come back after you made a backup.

I know what virtual memory is. But i don't want to disable it.
Pcsx2 enable virtual memory? What EXACTLY it does?
I want remove only what pcsx2vm affected, not remove virtual memory.

No no :)
All i need is to understand what pcsx2 vm affects and remove it. I feel secure if i can bring back my system as before i ran it.
Wow, good news!
I CAN'T open local security policy, it gives me an error of something regards "failed initalizing snap-in component" (my os is in italian).
I never opened local security policy and of course i don't think it's pcsx2 fault (it would be absurd).
I don't have a virus in my pc... I don't know what to think :(

Thats all pcsx2 did, was enable Virtual Memory.

Oh... ok then, thanks!
So if i want to bring back i need just to disable it... Ok.
Now i'll try to fix that snap-in problem (of course i'll ask in a more appropriate forum, not here :))
bye.
P.s : i still think that it's strange that PCSX2 enabled virtual memory... the OS didn't enable it by itself?

VM is not enabled by default in Windows. PCSX2-VM (Virtual Memory) build of course needs virtual memory enabled. So pcsx2 asks if you would like to enable it in order to use the VM build.

I don't really know why they named VM this way. It may confuse ppl as Virtual Memory is how M$ call pagefile (altho I seen in source some sort of file mapping maybe that's it, maybe it was another source) anyway...
SE_LOCK_MEMORY priviledge is added to Your account, this only means programs in Your profile can use some restricted set of functions (called AWE [Address Windowing Extensions]) which allows physical memory/address space allocation/mapping.
This can't screw anything (unless windows are flawed :heh:, or You have some @#(&* on Your PC) and for example MySQL (hmm, good opensource database) use these extensions too.

Thanks you too for the detailed explanation. I was thinking about my postgres database but you solved my doubt.
(Disgaea 1 is running soooo good)
