View Full Version : Sin not only attacks Spira, it destroys my emu

Disclaimer - I have searched this forum quite a bit for this subject. Nevertheless, I have a sinking suspicion it has already been discussed. I am just curious as to why every time (or just about every time) Sin attacks in FFX the emulator crashes. I seem to recall that in an earlier build, back in the summer, I played through the beginning of the game, through the first Sin attack, and on to the AlBed salvage ship. Now, however, the emulator crashes at these Sin scenes. So what is causing this?

As far as I know, there hasn't been a fix for this, just like there wasn't a fix (until this version) for the emu crashing during movie sequences. I'm not complaining - I'll just go grab a saved game file - more like just curious.

Briefly, I have an AMD Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB ram, GeForce 6600GT. I have the latest (R2) build of the emu and all plugins.

If your using DC / MTGS cpu options , try disabling them and getting past it. Save the game and enable them again.

(All I can really think of)

Thanks for that, but... already tried it :). Nothing has ever worked (e.g. the first sin attack, the boat to Killika). Thankfully, after Killika, this problem seems to be mostly over. Anyways, I'm more interested in the why...

have you tryed using 9.1, that could let you get past that bit, and just save afterwerds and load up on 9.2, only idea i can think of :P

Thanks for all the ideas. I have tried this on my computer, my other computer (Athlon 64 3800+, 1GB ram, ATI Radeon something) and my brother's computer (similar specs, but with a GeForce 7900GT). On the boat to Killika when Sin attacks, the emulator either crashes or freezes - doesn't seem to matter if the emulator v is 9.1 or 9.2.

I've given up (actually, again). I have a saved game file I found somewhere that has saves throughout the game, the earliest being a couple hours after the Sin attack en route to Killika on the Highroad. So I just skip to there and continue :eyespin: Thankfully, I've already gone all the way to Zanarkand without any further problems.

I am, of course, assuming no one has successfully gotten through these areas using PCSX2...

hmmm, I finished the game twice with PCSX2 and never found this problem.
I have the international version, I even fought penance. which version do u have?
try not to use the inbuilt save function cuz that messes up my emu in 9.1
but my emu never crashed in 9.2 unless i use that to save in the middle of a cg animation (I knew it could be bad :X)
I have everything enabled including AA*2; so I'm not sure which problem ur experiencing, and I only have a X600 256 MB graphic card
what's ur graphic and CPU setting on PCSX2? and dvd plugin?

heh, this crazy crazy world of emulation. I'm amazed you got through those Sin scenes. The only major Sin scene I've gotten through is the one where the AlBed Crusaders launch a huge attack against it.

Anyways, I am using PCSX 0.9.2R2, ZeroGS 0.96.0 (I've tried every combination of settings, in all versions of PCSX I have), and have attempted these scenes with MTGS and Dual Core on and off. I use Pete's CDVD Driver 1.2.0. I have also used PCSX 0.9.2 R1 and v0.9.1 with ZeroGS v0.95.0 and 0.93.0. I have tried these configs on various PCs without any luck.

So, due to this and seeing others having problems with these scenes, I naturally assumed no one had ever made it through them.

I am playing the NTSC version of the game, available in the USA. I read online that the "international" version of the game had some extra content in it. How do you get that version? Is it in English?

hmmm, since i'm playing international version, then i dun really know if the two versions are the same.
my friend from jap bought it for me XD this version has dark summons(enemies) and a final final hidden boss, penance it has a skill that does 99999 100% to all party members lol
and yeah it has both english and jap subtitles but only the sound from english version
and an extra content about FFX and staff
they fixed the chocobo racing bug too, where you can run for 0.0s 100% but hitting a bird first and changed various things too, can't remember off hand
PAL version is the newest one i think, i can't find that one anywhere though it only fixed one or two bug in international and another extra content about the development of the storyline; otherwise PAL=internation=english+dark summons+jap subtitle as an option.
oh and if you play international or PAL on ps2, you can load it to your ps2 hard drive instead of playing on the DVD

I'm about 12 hours into the US version--I'm using the "Greatest Hits" disc, but I think both NTSC copies are the same--and I have not experienced these crashes. Here are my plugins:

Zerogs 0.96.0 (SSE version)
P.E.Op.S. CDVD
P.E.Op.S. SPU2 sound driver 1.6.0

I have tried both using the game disc and mounting an .iso file into daemon tools, and the .iso is faster and has better stability. Good luck!

Yes the matter has been discussed before.

After the help of some members, it was discovered it is a plug-in issue when it comes to isos. But you can overcome these problems.

I guess you have the original game, and you don't need to burn the iso on a disc. So use a physilcal dvd drive (not a virtual one = deamon's tools or alcohol) with the original dvd and P.E.Op.S CDVD 1.2.0 plug-in.

These should do it.

The first time that i played ffx is when they released 0.9.2 and the only problem i had was in the beginning when auron says: "look", in that point the game freezes because of reading problems when the fmvs comes, i was looking in the game a way to go through the fmvs without the game crashing and i found it, i hope it may be helplful look:

btw: im using english version of ffx and im right now inside sin, and havent had any problem till then.

ps: there have been more ppl now with the new release that have been able to pass the scenes that had been a real problem for us... so i guess u are assuming wrong :(
