I'm a newbie with psx2 emulation, and am just dipping my toe in the pool. Not having owned an actual psx2, before I actually use PCSX2, I'd have to look to buy/borrow various used games. Before I do that, though, I'm trying to get a sense of what the state of the emulation actually is. My apologies if this is refered to elsewhere, but I can't seem to find anything that's non-technical. That is, I see lots of posts/threads about the specs that I'd need to run a given game properly, but I'm struggling to find posts that refer to the actual gameplay quality.

For example, the last FF I played was IX, which means I'd be anxious to give X a spin once I got ahold of it. Let's assume for the sake of argument that my comp is sufficient to run the game satisfactorily. Given that, I'm curious as to what extent playing on an emulator now is like playing on an actual console, and how much it deviates from a SNES-emulator-like ideal. Judging from the screenshots, graphics seem more or less perfect. How's the sound, the GUI, the menu's, the movies, etc? I seem to recall seeing a post that recommended that even though it's technically possible to complete the game, it's not for somebody who had never played before (though this may have been from an earlier version of PCSX2). Can anyone give any feedback on this?

If you have Dual Core processor and videocard supporting Pixel Shaders 3.0 - u can play several (3-5) games almost perfectly. Thats all.

The GUI is similar to how you would use windows. The pre-rendered movies in FFX have random pixel blocks. If you use the keyboard the analog sticks are tricky to use I believe. The sound has echo's for some games.
All in all it's a pretty impressive program.
P.S. legally you have to own a Play station 2 to use Pcsx2 due to needing the bios from a ps2. Also own the games you are to play.
