View Full Version : FFX Speedup Tips?

I'm hoping to play NTSC Final Fantasy X on my computer using PCSX2 0.92 (VM Version), but I was wondering if there was anything I'm missing that might speed it up. Here are the relevant specs of my PC:

Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2Ghz Dual-core)
1GB PC3200 DDR
nVidia GeForce 7600GT (AGP)

And here are the PCSX2 current setup details:

CPU - EERec, VU0rec, VU1rec, MTGS, DC, VU Skip, all enabled
ZeroGS KOSMOS 0.96 - No Bilinear Filtering, No Anti-aliasing, 640 x 480 windowed resolution
P.E.Op.S. SPU2 1.6 - No reverb, Gaussian interpolation
P.E.Op.S. CDVD 1.2 - Async read, 4MB additional cache, [FFX ISO mounted using Daemon Tools]
Other - SSSPSX PAD 1.7, USA BIOS (v01.60, 7/2/2002)

So, any tips? I feel with my system (after reading comments around the board) that I should be able to sustain a pretty playable experience, but my FPS (according to my eyeballing of the window's readout) jumps around the 30 to 55-ish range, and the game feels much more sluggish than that number might indicate. The first scene with Tidus on the boat and the nearby fans is jittery and stilted, even just when walking around.

Any help will be much appreciated!

If your averaging 30-55fps you're doing pretty well. The only thing you might try is over-clocking your CPU, although I suggest reading up on the Intarweb first.

I don't understand too
When i start the game (new game), the first scene is only between 30-32fps.
All options in cpu are turned on, but i got the same fps with dual core turn on or off.
My spec
Opteron 165@2,6
1gb ram
9700PRO
I think that all users with amd x2 have problems. Many post say that.
And i don't think my videocard too bad cause both core are at 100%

(sorry for my bad english)

well, that might only be me, but I care more about ingame then opening scene ;)
back when i had my 3500+, the opening scene was running at 20ish on 0.9.1 but was in the 30s ingame (would have been good if it wasnt of music being at half speed)

all this to say, at least try the game, dont stop at opening scene

what are your graphics settings? if you are using gsdx9, use pixel shader 1.4, if you are using zerogs, avoid AA and Bilinear Filtering

CyberMonk: your " jittery and stilted" experience is caused by VUSkip, turn it off

I play the game
Once i have seen 60fps, when we have to make fire and when tidus sleep after that. Is it normal ? Thanks
And is it normal between dual core on and dual core off, no difference ? I don't think.
No idea, but i'll try again to get at least 50fps

I used zerogs, and neither aa nor bilinear filtering enabled (9700 can't ;=)
Thanks to answer me

right, well the 9700 is a BIG drawback for your machine, your opteron severely outweighs the performance of your graphics card. the only other thing i can suggest is you do this

How to install the AMD X2 drivers, hotfix, the correct way. - XtremeSystems Forums (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81429)

Thanks refraction
I'm going to try and tell you tommorow.

So, basically, sans a jittery frame-skipping experience, most people play this game at a reduced (I'm sustaining about 35-40 FPS right now) speed throughout the entire thing?

exactly, you can only hope to run ffx at full speed with a high end rig

in any case, the 55 fps you are having aint bad at all

your PC is quiet enaugh for FFX.
try to overclock your cpu to 2,6ghz that should be enaugh to play the whole game with fullspeed. except some graphic intensive scenes like the mi'hen highroad...

btw: what core do you have? venice?

Manchester, I believe, as it's the Socket 939 (not AM2) edition. I'm using a Shuttle SN95G5 box, though, so I wonder if an overclock would bring about heat and/or cooling issues.

I don't understand
When i underclock my cpu from 2,6ghz to 2,2ghr, fps are the same.
It happens the same thing when i underclock too my gpu.
In the first 3d scene in ffx, just after I start new game, fps are only at 30-32. Anyone an idea ?

crossman
when you play, does task manager report cpu to be 100% under use?
if not, you are being bottlenecked by your gpu (which is weak compared to your cpu)

i know 9700 is really an old card but yes cpu is always at 100%
2.6 to 2.2ghz and no difference
I have seen in the forum that a lot of people don't managed to get true fps with them specs. Maybe there is a bug somewhere
Ps: In synthetic benchmarks, i see a big difference between 2.2 and 2.6ghz, no soucy with my cpu

I'm sure that your gfx card is slowing you down. That CPU with MTGS and DC can easily out pace a 9700. If you have a friend with a better card, try borrowing it to see if it helps (I'm 99% sure it will).

yes,
i'm going to try with another card. I hope it solves problems. T
anks barius. I thought that pcsx2 was only cpu power hungry !
