I've been taking a lots of screen shot recently and i noticed that the fps in pcsx2 is sometime not in sync with Fraps. So i was wondering what do you guys think about this?
Here's an example:

IMO, its only a thread that displays the fps every half second. i've read somewhere that the measurement fps limit is calculated every 4 frames (dunno its true or not). i think i'll stick with fraps... since it's accurate.
sometimes the fps display in pcsx2 gets up and down up and down though i dont notice any speed difference.
like first its 50 fps, then about a half second it slowdown to 40 fps ... then rise up to 60 fps for about half second too ... and then a half second later it dispays 38 fps then 64 fps then down again to 42 fps ... and so on ...
while in fraps it onlu display between 50-51 fps.
i guess ... the built in fps display in pcsx2 is more detail ... and fraps is more accurate.

Well, in the calm land from FFX near the cavern, the spot with the sword and stone i get 2 different kind of speed from pcsx2. It jump from 140'ish to 170 fps (back and forth) but fraps only had one speed :D and the fps was 160 fps...

Damn how do you get speeds like that lol I only get 50FPS max, if a Core2Duo E6300 is that good then I am throwing my Pentium 650 outta the window. and I just relised my GFX card is just sitting there running at about 40% while playing the emu, My P4 is bottlenecking it like hell, I wish I could fix my 2nd desktop :'(

I only wish i had your rams...so i can overclock more and more.. the fastest fps i get is 190 in the Besaid village the tent with no one in it (only further in the game or some ppl will be in there). And my E6300 was clocked at 2.66Ghz = to E6700 which cost like $500!
Note: The picture in my first post was clocked at a lower speed, 2.45Ghz.

Daaamn, I have gotta get one of these processors I just need to find the cash :( My ram was a present off my bro so I'm ok there, if you can find this ram anywhere for a really low price I would jump on it, I swear this stuff has wings lol, once I get a core 2 duo I should get speeds like yours oO you are so lucky :eyemove:
EDIT:
Wait I missed something out, Do Core 2 Duo's take the LGA 775 socket?

Once you get the Core 2 processor and a compatible motherboard--you need to overclock by going into the bios and change some setting...but you need to know what you're doing...and heat is your worst enemy so get a good air cooler, Zalman CNPS 9700 is good choice!
Anyway, back to the topic please! XD

I can say the FPS jumps very much in that scene from like 146 to 172 fps in my case and FRAPS shows 161-162 FPS. The emulator fps meter is updated a lot more frequently but FRAPS shows like more an average value of a little longer period it seems. Switch to windowed mode to see the big jumps in FPS when watching the emulator fps meter.
EDIT: added screenshots below first pic shows 172.0 and 2nd 146.8 FPS while FRAPS shows 162 FPS.
If you want to make speed comparisions of some sort (when overclocking for example) FRAPS value is a lot more convenient and provides a lot more exact comparisions. You have to pay attention very close to the polygon count otherwise but even then like in this scene the built-in FPS meter varies despite polygon count stays the same all the time.

Actualy FPS depends how You measure it.
If You measure time each frame takes to render and then calculate how many frames fit into second You probably get what PCSX2 shows.
FRAPS measures average (e.g how many frames was rendered last second / half second or something like that).
Dunno if FPS display is calculated each 4 frames, 4 frames are however used for framelimiter.
hmm, I'm slow as always.

I get about 205 fps in that tent :)
OC my E6600 to 3,2 Ghz

Well fraps measures the FPS through a long(er) time, so the average will be different.
If any one noticed it, fraps also is jumpy when it is just started.
