Currently, PCSX2 is optismized for dual core so maybe in the future they'll optismized quad-cores. :D Sure if you overclock the quad-cores cpu enough XD.

No quad core cpu won't offer any speed boost, so an extremely overclocked Core 2 Duo Conroe X6800 cpu is the best choise in hunt for full speed. 4GHz would probably do very good already. ;)

But I wonder who is crazy enough to fork out such cash just in order to play PCSX2. :lol:

if you have luck, you can get 4.0ghz with a core2duo E6700.
But 3.6ghz is maximum for me because my cooler and ram sucks.

So I was just being sarcastic? :p I've seen a E6600 at 5GHz+ too on XS forums for example... I don't think there's much benefit for overclockers choosing expensier than a E6600 as it overclocks almost nearly as far as X6800 with a good enough motherboard.

If a person asks "will a Core 2 Quad be enough for playing PS2 emu at full speed?" I take it he can fork out the cash for a X6800 too. lol

I don't think 4.0GHz on a conroe cpu will be stable on air cooling. They'll need to take it up to the next level up cooling and that is water cooling! And yes, there' re people have used Phase change (below Zero degree cooling) just to get to 4.0GHz...

I can get stable (Scythe Shogun) to ~3.95 in orthos however cores are near (or allmost at) throttle point 85°C. also that thing is "bit" power hungry at that point considering I get to 3.20 on 1.4Vcore and 3.6 on 1.45, 3.95 have to be 1.55.
And ambient 10° or so when I was trying that... so It's not so hard to clock conroe even on air (just keep windows open and everything'll be all right)

Even if you have a 8 ghz procesor you still cant watch any movie on the "100% playable" FFX... so... think it again quadro times (¿?¿) :S

I'm pretty sure MTGS can make use of more than 2 cores, but correct me if I'm wrong. DC (Dual Core) mode will obviously not gain any advantage on a quad core system though.

I would think there would be a small performance boost as the other processes, including windows itself, would be spread across more cores leaving more resource free on the 2 cores that pcsx2 runs on. Don't know how significant it would be though.
